My mom has a really crappy health insurance right now through a hospital. I took her to an appointment yesterday, waited 2 hours to check in, and then was told that the doctor was too busy and that they would reschedule us in a few weeks. It was a colossal waste of time. My mom has pretty bad arthritis in her hands and her feet are often hurting; in her last visit the doctor recommended that she should go see an endocrinologist as well due to her body producing too much of a hormone.
I'm looking to purchase her a better health insurance but have no idea which ones would be decent. I'm currently insured through my job, but can only have it extend to a spouse. I'm willing to pay a monthly cost, that's not really an issue. I'd just like to pick something that would offer her the most protection at a reasonable price. Can anyone provide and recommendations or tips on how I would go about attaining such a thing? We're located in the Bay Area in California if that matters. Thanks a bunch.
Yea, she does work. She's self-employed however, so no luck there. I checked the medi-cal qualifcations, and I don't beleive we need the requirements to apply.
Hm, that would be quitea problem. I'd like to try to get her an appoinment asap. Bah.

Even so, it might be worth getting her set up with something now, because chances are really good that she'll still have arthritis in a year. Plus if she falls, gets into an accident, gets sick, whatever, she'll be covered for that. If she gets an infection, you don't want to be relying on a doctor you schedule an appointment with, and then is too busy to see you.
You *might* be able to get her set up on your plan if you could claim her as a dependent, but it sounds like she works, so you probably can't go that route.

Have you looked into Medi-Cal at all? Does she work?
