360 backwards compatability and region locking

Does anybody know if original Xbox games are region free on the 360, like most 360 games are? Like, if I want to play an import version of an oXbox game on the 360 (and yes it is mentioned as backwards compatible), would that work or only games from the equivalent region? This isn't really mentioned on the Xbox website or at GameFAQs so I hope somebody here knows. Thanks!

I imagine it depends on if the game was region free on the OXB, which IIRC none of them were.

When I had an Asian 360, none of my US oXBox games would work on it so I'm going to say that oXBox games are region locked.
