I'm surprised there isn't a thread about this.
What is "The Soup", you say? Imagine if you took "The Daily Show" and pop culture, put 'em into a big ol' pot, and made a...uh...soup out of it, you'd get "The Soup".
I'll let Wikipedia explain how it works:
The show features the host, Joel McHale, on a greenscreened set with a screen to his right. The show is broken up into various segments that focus on themes such as reality television shows or shows on E!. McHale introduces each clip, which is then played. He then comments on the clip before moving onto the next one. There is a live audience on the show, comprised of a small group of E! employees, their family and friends, along with the typical production personnel. The audience is largely involved in the show, laughing and cheering along with the clips.
Although the show is scripted, a large portion of the show is ad-libbed.[3]
Indeed, a lot of the humor is based on a sort of shared reaction and call-and-response with the audience.
The ad-libbing works it great effect on the show, being that many of the jokes don't work
exactly as they are planned, which somehow makes it even funnier. Joel is also an extremely gifted comedian on the spot and has salvaged many a joke that's gone awry.
The format of the show mostly follows Joel's introduction to a humorous clip, the clip is played, and Joel then satirizes the content.
The show is split up into segments, with clips falling into those segments, such as "Chat Stew"-with the ever-well-known "Mmmm, So Meaty!" accompaniment-(features talk show clips) , Chicks, Man (features clips/news stories about female celebrities), and Reality Show Clip Time! (self-explanatory).
The show will occasionally have celebrities "show up" during the episode, mostly to advertise some new movie/show/book they have out. Normally seen as dull and self-promoting, it works on "The Soup" because most of these celebrities parody themselves when they are on. You have to see it for yourself, but trust me when I say it works.
Okay Rent, this sounds pretty cool but I don't want to watch the E! Channel. Do you have some sort of way for me to preview the show over the internet?
Why,
yes I do! Currently, hulu has clips (not full episodes...yes it sucks, I know) of the show for your viewing pleasure. (If you want the full episodes online, please write to hulu/ E! and tell them to get off their lazy asses and post the full show!)
What time is "The Soup" on?
I believe the show runs on Fridays at 10 pm ET, with reruns on Saturdays at 10 pm ET. Don't quote me on that, but I'm pretty sure that's the times. Also, The Soup fairly regularly (by that I mean almost weekly) has "Clip Specials" episodes of the show (all centered around the same theme...the clips are mostly the same, but Joel's commentary is different, so it's worth it) on Mondays at 10 pm ET.
And...that's it! This thread is for discussion of the show "The Soup". If there's anything you think I should add in the OP just tell me and I will.

It wont be dipping my toes in the hot tub as much as tipping the first few picometers of one to into it, but I'll try it.
Awesome.
Magic Online - Bertro
Unfortunately, I find the show to be only mildly amusing.
Hal Sparks, former Soup host, was best supporting actor. :P
Also, Seth:
This Is How To Dance
Its even where my nickname comes from.
Talkc is short for Talkative Chowder, which is another name for Talk Soup.
I love The Soup. I especially love the intro segments to the clip of the week with Lou the chihuahua.
Got to love Chat Stew... ( Sooo Meaty! )
*clicks on TV*
*kids are immediately terrified*
"Mommy!"
How could i forget that? Shame on me.
I hate the Let's Take Some E! intro though. They need a better one.
Also, bring back old clip of the week intro. Joel's demented face as he emasculates Lou is priceless.
It's where humor goes to die.
....
Oh.
I tried watching Sports Soup once, but the guy just isn't nearly as good so I was put off. To be honest though I didn't give it much of a chance, and sports aren't my thing anyway.
