Concerning weight loss and HDTVs.

So I've finally decided to get an HDTV, and would like some advice from you guys.

I'm willing to spend 600-1000 dollars, and the size should be around 40-50''.

Now, I have no idea about anything concerning HDTVs. I just want an HDTV that looks good...Any suggestions on a particular model that has good quality at a low price?

How about this one?

dos

I've been eating very well for the last few weeks (I cut out all soda and fast food from my diet, and I'm only eating things that go bad within two weeks [with some exceptions]). I've also been on the treadmill for about two hours a day (averaging 3mph), and I've been lifting some weights.

At this rate, how much weight do you think I could lose in about six months if I stick to this routine every day? (I'm 17, 6'3, and 270 pounds).

Also, what motivated this whole weight loss thing was me noticing some stretch marks on my hips and arms. Do you expect these will go away, or at least fade significantly?

Thanks.

tres

And yes, I realize that there is an official thread for TVs in "Moe's Stupid Technology Tavern," and an official fitness thread, but I posted these questions a few days back and so far no one has responded. They've actually kind of forgotten about it, I think.

Thanks.

I did what you did for weight loss and lost about 5-7 pounds a month. YMMV of course.

Something to keep in mind though is that your body WILL adapt. You're going to have to keep pushing yourself to continue gaining results.

    Ok, thanks.

Another problem is that I have a very low metabolism. Would it be okay/possible to take some drugs to increase it?

That's only an answer that a physician could really answer.

Most drugs that will have a significant impact are very illegal. As in, your doctor cannot even prescribe them to you. And given the amount that you need to lose, you can’t stay on drugs that long anyway.

You can play with various OTC speed, caffeine, and laxative pills, but again, you need to lose too much weight for that to be tolerable. But do keep in mind that the weightlifting will increase your metabolism.

Holy Crap, tvs are cheap now. I got a 32 1080 sharp 10 months ago and it was 100 dollars more, and I got it cheaper than anywhere on the net. Thought his might be an older model. Who knows. I dig my Sharp. good functionality. I really like it for sports, but sometimes when watching a movie in HD I can't tell if the picture seems like it should be better or not. Although since it is a 1080 and I was watching a 720 and frequently watch low res shit its probably the media more than the tv. But I haven't had any problems in 10 months, it worked fine with my 360 and HD cable so...that's about all I got.

Regarding TV's, you can't go wrong with anything from Samsung, LG or Sony. Even their "bad" tv's are miles better than most. Every model you check out, write the number down and google it first. You're bound to find a few reviews and you'll learn about all sorts of hidden features and problems the average floor salesman wouldn't ever know about.

as far as the stretch marks go, go out and buy skin cream that's marketed to pregnant women. Probably the biggest utility of said skin cream is it contains some wacky voodoo that helps your skin with elasticity and helps reduce the stretch marks that can be common with the 9 month aftereffects of baby making.

    use this cream daily.

im fairly sure the voodoo is just vitamin e.

and that cream is for preventing stretch marks.

stretch marks can and will fade in time so that they are much less noticable but they will never completely go away on their own.

i think you can have them surgically removed but for most people being fit with a decent tan makes them almost impossible to spot.

This is already stated in the OP of the fitness thread, but there is NO magic pill/cream/spell that will make you lose weight quickly. Expect to lose 1 lb a week, sustainably, and healthily, look at the fitness op for diet ideas, essentially, you want to eat 5-6 small meals every day, excercise, including some heavy lifting, will vastly increase your metabolism. To borrow a page from the fitness thread: You are NOT a special snowflake, you CANNOT lose weight any different than any one else. Read the op, follow it. And much congrats on getting up and trying to make a difference, that is more than a lot of people I know have ever done.

    On TV's:
I bought a westinghouse 37" lcd a few years ago to use as my computer monitor, it is excellent, and I will probably be getting another one, for my living room. They are not the most expensive in the world either.

    Conerning the HDTV question.

I have a 30 inch Polaroid HDTV. I understand this isn't a sony, vizio, samsung, or dell or anything, but I have had this tv for four months now. Up to this point I can't love the TV more. It has a great picture, navigation is retardedly simple, and the micro SD slot is fucking cool. I also hook my laptop up to it every now and again to play WoW or TF2 for more effect. Connecting the two is reallyy easy too.

Look into polaroid. It is cheap, and nice looking.

In your price range, I'd recommend a 42" Samsung or Vizio LCD. Sony units also tend to be quality, but there's a definite price premium attached to the Sony brand. The Sharp model you linked has a nice price, but it's their budget series, not an AQUOS model, so I'd be wary of it.

I would recomend a Vizio too. They're probably the best value out there if you're not looking for something top of the line. They look just fine.

I have no idea what it will do for strech marks, but if you want to "tighten up" your physique, you might consider doing high-repetition low-weight lifting at a gym, like with the assisted machines; no need to go macho and grunty on freeweights. It reduces one's jiggle factor - i'm no fitness expert though, so i'd turn to the standing fitness thread if you wanted detailed/reputable advice.

Just to throw in my two cents on stretch marks, neroli oil and shea butter are really really good at helping to reduce the noticability of stretch marks and scars and the like. Lavender helps as well.

Hm m will check those out, I got some nasty stretch marks on my inner thighs from back when I played a lot of hockey, I ended up with tree trunk legs a little faster than was good for my skin.

I got a 62" Regza last month for about 1500 bucks so YMMV.
