Piano, back support??

Every time I practice the piano it kills my back. I can "computer" for hours with a nice comfortable chair with a nice back to it, but 10 minutes of "piano" kills my back for hours if not days.

thoughts?

I've tried both a bench and stool.

Use your computer chair for the piano, too?

How are you sitting? There's a rule of thumb I've been taught. Once your back is straight, stretch your arms out, fists clenched; your knuckles should be able to touch the board just behind the keys.

EDIT: This is with a piano stool, by the way.

It's been a long-ass time since I've played the piano, but what about a drum throne with back support?

You should be playing piano with a straight back. Your back is killing you because you probably have bad posture, and you probably slouch in your computer chair.

If you slouch while playing piano, you're just making it harder for yourself. A better solution would be to use a stool while using your computer so you're forced to sit with better posture, or do back and shoulder exercises to strengthen those muscles.

Bonus points if you straighted up when you read this post ;D
