Borat: Most Explosive Movie Of The Decade?

I loved the movie, but did anyone else get the feeling that a lot of the jokes were making fun of Borat, instead of Borat making fun of Americans?
Oh yeah. In fact, I'm convinced it was a deliberate choice.

Cohen's a smart guy who's clearly made a deep study of comedy and theater (witness the very skillful pratfall in the antique store, something that would be definitely beyond the reach of your average Punk'd-style practical joker) and almost certainly knows a lot about show-business psychology and how to keep the audience on your side.

Think about it - while some of the people in the movie were genuinely evil fuckasses, others you almost feel sorry for. If the movie was two hours of clowning on hapless victims, you'd have a lot more people walking out of the movie angry or disgusted instead of entertained and edified. And if he'd confined himself to obvious targets like the rodeo guy, the movie would have the whiff of self-righteous moral muckraking.

There was a review I read that said something along the lines of "by offending everyone, the movie becomes offensive to no-one." I think that's the comedy sweet spot he was aiming for; he's got packed houses full of people from all walks of life laughing at redneck racists without coming off like some sort of snide hipster.

I really have a hard time believing that the frat boys weren't acting or at least in on it. I mean, come on, the odds of hitchhiking along the highway and getting such a perfectly ignorant group of assholes to pick you up...

I mean, it's entirely possible, but it was hard for me to suspend my disbelief.

I don't think he offended/attacked everyone though, because I know for sure non of how and what I feel was attacked at any point.

He spent most of the time in southern states ... there's a good reason.

the didn't HAVE to be. Things happen, suggestions are made.

[spoiler:6412049d72]they probably filmed multiple hitchhikings and just picked the best one. That way, they could all be unscripted and the "story" could move along. It would also explain why he got off the motorhome after he found out about Pam. He got the info he needed and was ready to try again with a different group.[/spoiler:6412049d72]

Usualy I hate fake interviews but this movie was rather surprising.

There's a sertain level of irony in it that doesn't quite shine through from the previews or other Borat skits. Especialy the fact that he's speaking yiddish throught the entire film. That just cracked me up.

I was wondering what language he was speaking on that Comedy Central preview. Hahaha, that's fantastic.

Which fraternity was it in the movie? Like Phi something of South Carolina was it? I can't remember. I want to look them up so I can see if anything has happened to their chapter since this movie.

Anyone know what this is rated in Australia? Want to know before I get my little brother's hopes up and ask him if he wants to see it with me.

Not that that will stop me anyway...

How old is he? Do not take him if he is under 16. It would be incredibly inappropriate

It sounds like in general they had a few "advance producers" setting up the appointments and whatnot. I mean - you can't just roll into DC with a moustache and get an interview with Alan Keyes and Bob Barr. That pretty much seems to be about the extent they went to with the fratboys.

Now I'm kind of curious if the advance producers were all dressed up like Khazhak shlubs throwing around money and consent forms as well.

Wonderful parenting you've got going on there, but I doubt even really good parents know about 4chan, so I guess it's a moot point.

    Ah, fuck you.

My parents are great and have done absolutly everything they can to provide for me and my brother; we've both grown up to be perfectly balanced individuals and he's currently on a scholorship at one of the top schools in Melbourne.

For your information, I first stumbled across 4chan when I was only 14, and there's nothing wrong with me. Keep your presumptions to yourself.

EDIT: Yeah, sorry, that came off a bit strong.

But seriously, try not to judge people so quickly?

Ah, read posts before you make assumptions as to whether or not I'm technically serious even though it is my fault for not sticking a :P or making it a little more joking there. Also I pretty much contradict myself there by saying that even fantastic parents don't know about 4chan usually.
