Get ready to have your brain pulled out through your butt: LA-MULANA
I'm gonna be honest, I don't have a good OP for this
basically, La-Mulana is an adventure game about Indiana Jo- err, some other guy with a whip and a hat
it was originally a spiritual sequel to Maze of Galleous, which I never played, so I would compare La-Mulana to Castlevania or Metroid with a little bit of Zelda mixed in there, plus a large dose of OHMYGODTHISISFRUSTRATING
seriously, La-Mulana isn't a joke, the game takes somewhere around 20-30 hours to complete without a guide, and about 10-15 with a guide
but pussies use a guide, REAL men like Dr. Jones solve the puzzles by themselves
Getting into the ruins proper was much harder than I imagined it would be. But once inside things make a little more sense, you'll get a pretty good grip on what puzzles you can solve and which you can't pretty fast.
God damn bats, though. I hate the bats sooooo much
Also aren't there traps that will quite literally trap you. Like, so you can't escape and have to restart?
You can teleport out using one of the ROMS you find that allows you to teleport back to the main town, and with the Glyph reader you can use these weird looking stones that have horns on them as Waypoints.
If I remember right, I drank a potion distilled from the wrong fairy and as a result, after beating the first phase of the last boss, I was disqualified from fighting the remaining phases and finishing the game
but the experience cured me of my desire to finish the game, so it all turned out ok
especially since I was nearly dead and I would have had no chance in hell of finishing the boss anyway.

EDIT: Also, I got stuck about 5 minutes in, and spent an hour trying to figure out what to do in those first three-four screens.

it has always been free
I should try this out
although the fact that it has hard puzzles probably means I'd give up quickly
it's the platforming and fighting that's really hard
I thought it was just an oldschool game that had a revival of popularity but it turns out it's a newish game made in oldschool style
sounds pretty rad, though

Hey, I made you a new desktop.
Wow, do you use those same art skills to make out with under age girls that you give rides home too Marsh?
I mean, goddamn, Marsh is so sick he is terminally ill

You shouldn't be there yet, then. Later on,
