What did mucinex do to me?

It's a little gross...

So I got a cold. And, as always, after 3 days I stopped blowing my nose and started coughing up mucus. So I took a mucinex pill. It worked, and now I'm not coughing up anything. That was on friday. Since I took the mucinex, I haven't eaten anything, and I haven't pooped. Nothing (except half an ounce of fruit loops, but that's not really food...). And I don't feel hungry at all. I'll go up to the kitchen, take out the stuff for a sandwich, and think, 'you know, I don't think I can eat this' and put it away. I don't feel constipated or anything, either. Anyone know what's wrong? Loss of appitite isn't one of the side-effects...

    Plain mucinex, or mucinex-d?

Go eat something. Even if you aren't hungry, at least ingest some soup. Avoiding food for that long is terrible for you.

    plain,

I did manage to eat half of one of those tiny fruit loops boxes, though.

What I'm worried about is me not wanting to eat.

That is a bit of a problem.

Eat anyway, and schedule a doctor visit.

Probably just getting over the illness. Make sure you're eating on a schedule, since you can't currently rely on feeling hungry.

Meh, IME, if you haven't eaten in a while, you don't really feel that hungry. In fact, you can feel kind of nauseus at the sight of food. Prepare a delicious (but small) meal and eat it anyway, and you might find about twenty minutes in you cant stop stuffing nutrients into your facehole.

    Eloquent.

I find that when I'm sick, I often lose my appetitie and just about everything is thrown off. All my normal routine things (poo/pee/eat/drink) are kind of on the fly. Food doesn't seem appetizing but you do need energy so try to eat, even if its small bits at a time.

You could try soup if you feel as if food won't go down easily.

I've fasted regularly and after the first 24-36 hours your appetite pretty much goes away completely, this is accompanied by your digestive system shutting down (if you don't eat, you don't poop). Just break your fast gently, start with a 50/50 mix of OJ (or some other juice) and water. Graduate up to full strength juices, and then try some yoghurt. Go easy, as you start digesting stuff your appetite will eventually return. If you break your fast with a bacon cheeseburger with jalapenoes you will not enjoy the experience past maybe eating it.

I know some mucinex has pseudoefedrin, which geeks you all out and acts as an appetite suppressant.
