Okay so basically my hair is untameable. The only time it is not all frizzy is when it's pretty short. Unfortunately, I look like a doofus when it's short, so I like to keep it long. My problem is that my hair is pretty wild; frizzy, tangled, and poofed out. The only thing that keeps it flat is a beanie, and only if I leave it on after I get out of the shower and over night. I'd like to know if there are any ways to make it flatter / easier to manage besides doing this every night? The beanie I have right now is pretty terrible for this, and I don't want to go out and buy another one, as most of the time they are about $20 and I don't have that kind of money to waste. However, I can probably coerce my parents into buying me some hair stuff :P
I have similar hair problems, very wavy and hard to control. I've given up on styling it.
Normally i just wear a cap or some kind of hat and keep it very short. There is pretty much a hat out there for every style/occasion. But that can get expensive.
I really hope someone else knows how to deal with it.
shower in the morning. I have to, otherwise I look like a hobo. Also, Schwartzkopf's leave-in treatment (grey and green tube) is awesome. Don't use any shampoo that promises HELLA CLEANING POEWRZ, it'll just strip all the oils out of your hair and make it more mental. If it squeaks in your hands when you're rinsing, too clean. Condition.
I'd recommend bobby-pins too, but I figure you wouldn't be a taker :P
Conditioner! Use plenty of it all the time. Seriously, try using a fistful of the stuff in the shower. Then, get yourself a straightening iron and as soon as you get out of the shower blow dry, straighten and comb your hair. This formula is usually a sure fire way of keeping friz down at length. I know a number of people who do this, including my girlfriend who normal has a head of hair akin to carrot top.
Ah! But I use so much conditioner!
Blowdrying seems to make it worse, and my hair is too short still for a straightening iron...I think. It's about 4, maybe 5 inches long.
4 to five inches is plenty of hair for a straightener, and don't just blowdry it straight, this will in fact make it worse. if you do try the straightener, try grabbing with it and pulling it slowly through the hair while blowdrying the hair that is being held out straight by the pull of the straightener.
Another option, which might fit your lifestyle better, is to adapt a hairstyle that requires gelling. a nice thick gel will hold anything down and its easy to make it look good.
My sister applies castor oil on her hair and scalp about 30 minutes before showering, and she made me try it once, with good results. It kinda cancels out the effects of shampoo which dries your hair entirely too much. It somehow makes your hair just oily enough without making it, er, greasy.
This is precisely my method every morning. The only problem I have is that my hair still pulls out or breaks when brushing it after showering, despite that I use anti-breakage conditioner and use one of those brush combs, not the actual coarse/horse-hair type of brushes. Aside from that, the above method is simple and it works.
Just don't over-rinse after the conditioner, and don't use too much hair spray. The former will pretty much negate any effect you have from the conditioner, and the latter will give you helmet hair, as well as making your hair coarse and brittle.
You should only wash your hair once every other day, otherwise it will strip the oils out and cause it to become brittle. Also try and use conditioner and LEAVE IT IN YOUR HAIR for a few min while doing something else in the shower, like using a facial cleaner.
Seriously, it'd make it easier to suggest what to do with your hair.
heh
OH JESUS, BURN IT!
Seriously though, that looks pretty hard to style; maybe you'd be better with it shorter, thinned out a little, although I'd speak to a proper hair stylist about it to be honest; it's better to work with what your hair's got, rather than against it for what you think would look good.
I'd maybe go to an actual stylist to get advice on what to do product wise with you hair. Ask your female friends for a reccomendation on where to go if you don't go to a place like that already.

Gotcha. I think I'll ask my mom. God knows she already spends like 60 dollars on a fucking haircut

DANGER WILL ROBINSON.
Of course, that's because I wouldn't let my mom near my hair.

Shower+Conditioner->Ponytail->Hair Spray
No drying or any of that nonsense.
I spend the day at work with nice, neat hair, and at night my hair's relaxed in to a decent form, so I can untie it, and it it remains awesome.
Personally I tend to assume that hats hate hair, so I never wear them.
Haven't used a hat for like ten years.
