Hello everyone, just wanted some feedback on my latest t-shirt design. I love the fact that you guys are brutal with your critiques, so hand me over some of your tough love.

Here's the design:

Front:

drinkaroundtheworld_front.jpg

Back:

drinkaroundtheworld_back.jpg

Here's the premise:

Every year, I go with a group of friends to Disney's Epcot Center in Orlando to drink around the world. If anyone has ever been to Epcot Center, they know that it is by far the lamest of the Disney parks.

But, Epcot has something that no other Disney park has...

Exotic Alchohol!

Epcot Center showcases 11 different countries. Each of which has imported food and drinks. The premise of Drink Around the World is to have at least one drink at every country. Needless to say, You get pretty destroyed by around Canada.

It's a blast and we usually make a t-shirt for it. This year, I designed the t-shirt. On the front it has this year's logo, and on the back it has the slogan and how to say, "Cheers" in every country. I would really appreciate it, if you guys could give me some feedback on the design–Typography, colors, and all that jazz. Be brutal.

Here are some pictures of the first group that went:

The second group of us is going next Saturday. And I'm really looking foward to it!

Now this is a well thought out, well executed, purpose filled t-shirt. That's how it's done, Weesneak.

Is this one color? Also, even though in the original Japanese format it's writen as kanpai I'm under the impression that when transliterated it turns into Kampai.

Much like the word shinbun (newspaper) turns into Yomiuri Shimbun.

It's two colors, front and back, which makes it add up to four screens. It's amazingly cheap to get them printed. We had 33 shirts printed and it came out to only 9 dollars a shirt.

Also, I'm not sure about how to say cheers in Japanese (which is sad because I took two years of Japanese). Maybe I should've looked up the Hirangana.

    Eeeee? Sore wa dame da!

I'm pretty sure that if you look up the hiragana it will read as kanpai, but every version I've seen transliterated into romaji is kampai. I'm gonna need some one to comfirm this. Lexxy? Peachisworth? ...Celest?

    Daredemo wa ii.

    EDIT:

If you're gonna put the exclamation mark at the end in the Spanish version it should be at the begenning, too. ¡Salud!

I don't get why Morocco is the only one written in its actual characters.

There's no Australia on there T_T

Take a look at this map:

    Epcot_map.jpg

Australia does not have its own section, though I believe that it has a stand in the International Gateway area of the park, and even has a wine tasting tour. Yum!

Unfortunately, we would probably die if we really did drink from every single country featured in Epcot (especially since we go during the Food and Wine festival). So we limit ourselves to only the countries that have their own section.

Though between you and me, I'd rather drink Australian wine as opposed to Chinese wines ANY DAY OF THE WEEK!

But, seriously. By the end of the night. You start FEELING it!

Exactly! We figured that Morocco was the most obscure, and thought it'd be funny to leave it in unpronouncable Arabic characters. It makes it a little bit more fun when the bartenders tell us how to pronounce it.

If you're gonna put the exclamation mark at the end in the Spanish version it should be at the begenning, too. ¡Salud!

I can't believe I'm the first to point this out but the perspective on the bottom of the bottle is reversed. Also the wings don't line up properly for either perspective and the text on the back is horrible.

    Funny idea though.

Thanks for the insight phonehand. notice the similar lines at the top of the bottle indicating the outside shape of the bottle? The lines give the impression that the bottom of the bottle is facing us much more than they indicate the inside showing through.

You're right. It does look a inversed. This is exactly the opposite of what I intended though. What could I have done to make it so that the line looks like it's the inside showing through?

Should I have left the line out, entirely?
the text on the back is horrible.

Why? Is it too garish? Or does it clash with the lettering on the front? Is it the layout?

Do you think that it would've been better if I went with something a little more standard? Maybe a plain sans-serif?

It's spelled out kanpai but definitely pronounced kampai

The back is terrible for several reasons. For one, the angular font does not compliment the rounded, flowing font of the front. You should have choses languages instead of countries if you were going to repeat the same way to say cheer for three countries. That's just lazy. You didn't use the kanji for the Japanese or Chinese but you did use the scripts for Morocco. The exclamation point on the beginning of Salud is not present. The layout is pretty jarring too. A straight list would have been much easier for you and for everyone else to look at.

To be fair, grift, since it's related to the countries in the World Showcase, it makes more sense to list them as countries than as languages.

But then how do you get around the America/England/Canada 'Cheers' issue? Maybe just do one? I dunno.

EDIT: Also, the circular layout parallels the pseudo-circular World Showcase. They're in the order that they are in in the actual World Showcase.

Needs to learn more about the colloquialisms of the specified countries in order to make the "cheers" more significant. This was mentioned before with the "cheers, eh" comment for Canada. Like I said, it's just lazy. I didn't read the part about Epcot Center. I still think that a list would work better than the circle despite the circular design of the World Showcase.

    I would either:
    a) make the lines a lot thinner
    b) get rid of them
    or
    c) use that other shade of blue for that part

Play around with those until it looks right. I would also consider some kind of reflection on the bottle and possibly a line where the wing meets the bottle (and as I said before I don't think the angle of the wing meeting the bottle is right).

The font on the back more specifically looks really ugly and kinda random. It's hard to read, doesn't look good, fit the theme or flow well circularly.

I'm sure after a few drinks these problems will go away though!

one thing i dislike is the bottom of the bottle doesnt have a distinct outline since the "swoosh" coming from the back of it is also white... this may also be contributing to the whole "See through bottom isnt... see through-ey enough"

also the wings dont line up *just* right. i think they could benefit from more detail too.. but that just might be me. maybe some very simple looking jet engines or something??

the font on the back is pretty terrible, i wouldnt use it for something that has a lot of text, maybe a company name logo (maybe.. probably not), but definitely not the back of a shirt with a ton of text all over it.

baby blue aint that appealing to me either, but thats entirely preference..

    rest of its good though

I know what you mean, I'm just saying that there's reasoning behind the shape and use of countries. I like the circular design more than I would a list, but I agree that three 'Cheers!' is pretty uncreative.

    oh god
i really really wanted to do this when i went to epcot in may of this year
i turned 21 in june so i missed my chance, but i told myself i was pretty much required to go back for a jaunt with someone to enjoy the beauty that is beers around the world

agreed about the 3 cheers being repeated, however, now thinking about it, it could be kind of clever, HIP HIP HOORAY

the overall shirt is pretty decent for just a drinking event, better so than most group shirts
