Well, at least two of us are on the Columbus server. Also, my ingame name is Draven for anyone looking to group up.

THE ADVENTURES OF CAP'N MYRAH AND THE SAUCY MARE.
After many battles with Cretian pirates, and one memorable engagement with a keg of rum, our intrepid hero wakes up in Istanbul. After admiring the nighttime view of the Hagia Sofia, the Captain realizes that she looks like some sort of demented female version of Pancho Villa. However, realizing that this crazy outfit adds some nice bonuses, we continue on, exploring the Hellespont and looking for trouble.
Leaving the great bosporous, we find our way to one of the many examples of bad localization in this game, "Lemons island." This is in fact, Lemnos island, one of the many pirate strongholds, and a good place to get into some sea-battles when finding pirate smugglers on the high-seas gets a little bit difficult.
We find ourselves in battle with many, many red-sailed pirate vessels, trying in vain to protect their secret hideout island from our intrepid captain Myrah. However, they quickly fall to the might of our cannons.
The Saucy Mare may have had a little bit of help from some smelly captain that identifies himself as a "goon", but not much.
With the Saucy Mare overloaded with pirate booty fished from the briny deep, we set sail for the city of Athens.
Well, people are enjoying this game. Looks like I'll be spending the day after christmas (or maybe christmas day...) creating a vicious corsair. I shall see you mangy gutter-scamps on the morrow!

Everybody seems to be on Columbus.
Granted, I haven't actually seen anyone else from here.
And, if we ever get a guild started, I might as well be the crafter person. I seem to already have gotten to tier 2 materials, and my forging seems to be getting up there. I haven't had much need for shipbuilding seeing as I managed to loot an awesome figurehead pretty much to begin with, and have been using that the entire time. I can, however, craft a whole bunch of random junk that's useful to newbies.
Officer's equipment is a bitch, though, they fail much too often, and you have to pay 2500sp for a special material, which also get consumed when you fail.
Crafting itself is rather boring, but otherwise painless, and you can just set your character to gather materials for half an hour at a time, only checking back when they run out of SP.
It's pretty interesting, though. There's like a whole bunch of different things that gain experience. First is your character, that skills up somewhat similar to UO in that it's pretty much classless, instead choosing certain skills to work with.
Then there's your ship, which has three stats; maneuverability, military equipment, and structure. Each is raised by exploration (IE: just sailing, or sending crewmen off), ship-combat, and trading, respectively. I'm ASSUMING (one can never be too sure with the engrish), after you get one of the skills to 10, you can rebuild (IE: upgrade) your ship to something better.
And then, apparently, there's your ship's figurehead (Crafted or looted), which you can upgrade after gaining a certain amount of experience to get better bonuses.
EDIT: And while we're here, might as well start a list of names.
Currently, I'm trying to produce a few figure heads, and trying to figure out what authenticating something does, or well just how to do it.
Exploring is in my blood.
So is the menial task of digging and building sand castles.
We need to start an english wiki on this or something.
But basically, for the adventuring alliance stuff, you go to one of the guys in your starting city, and ask an NPC to authenticate your findings. In Alexandria the guys name is Artes, and he's just south of the big fountain-square during daylight hours.
Otherwise, you can go to any scholar NPC (which are freaking hard to remember, I admit) and authenticate if you manage to get a journal when you explore.
I'm not sure what you do when you experience stuff on land, though.
And as for resolutions, I wouldn't know. You have to go into your config (Voyage Century Online/Voyage/core.cfg) files and manually change your resulution. I bumped mine up a bit so the interface is less But, YMMV.

The download is about to finish. What do I do once i'm in game?
Follow the tutorial, then afterwards I suggest using the 8k you get from completing the quest to get some gathering skills, and begin getting materials.
Also, specialize in a weapon if you want to fight other pirates.
If you don't want to gather, buy some more sailors from the dockers, buy some provisions, and look around for some smugglers. Although I do suggest upgrading your fishing boat first.

I'm working on forming a guild for us right now. I'm guessing the name will be "Able Seamen" (Since noone else suggested anything.) and the flag that'll be displayed on the sails/any colonies we capture will be some sort of Cthulu-esque looking being. If you all have any different idea's let me know.

Hrm, I doubt anything I'd throw out would be a better guild name.

The one gamershell west coast USA mirror gave me 750k/s the entire time.
Also people might want to make note, the Filefront file is fucked. It wont install past the models.

I don't understand. I think I'm afraid now.
It does control awkwardly, right? If it does, we're safe.
Not really, it controls quite well and there's minimal lag, even in the starter area, which is flooded with newbs.
In short, we're doomed.
How can this get any better?
Also I'm on Magellan.
In fact, where'll be the PA guild? Columbus or Magellan?

Hrm, to move or not now, hrm.
And it's free forever...
Yes!
Guess I'll be an exploring shipbuilder of sorts.
Pig iron and timber is ridiculously expensive at times though.
Heck, just do the handcrafters alliance tasks and it'll probably boot you up a good 20,000sp for your time.
Are you stuck only sticking to one "alliance" type thing?
If not, awesome.
I don't think it even matters what city you're in.
Also, are you in game? Name's Lyss and I'm hanging int he tavern in Athens at the moment.
Columbus was a hack. Magellan for life.
Stick with columbus, because we're there now, I think. ;_;

I'm trying to get some money, and upgrade my resource gathering abilities. I also need more ship building plans.
Or it might be a lag issue, I dunno.

But I really suggest going through the early warrior, adventure, and handcraftsman's alliance tasks.

Never pay for materials if you can't get it yourself, it's honestly not worth it. ;3
Laboring skills can actually effect your character permanently, by increasing load capacitity and max SP, which are, very nice, if you ask me. ;3
A great way to obtain easy cash while recovering SP is to get work at the tavern, simply rest, and make some cash/medicine exp at the same time. ;3
Even then, you can get yourself a good amount of them by spending an hour, hour and a half or so mining and lumberjacking.
Also: don't toss schematics and pictures, whomever our crafters are will be needing them.
Cannonlegged Pirates?
Peglegs, we don't need those, we have cannons.
