Questions about 360's red light of death

So I just got the red ring of death on my 360, a day after buying Prince of Persia.

While looking at the support guide on the xbox website, it says to check my power supply. Instead of a green light, I see an orange one, and that supposedly indicates that I my power cord isn't actually connected to my system. I checked by plugging and unplugging and turned on my xbox, it does turn right on, but immediately gives me the ring of death.

So my question is, do I have the hardware malfunction that requires me to ship it to microsoft, or could it just be my power supply?

It sounds like you are going to have to ship it out to microsoft, I think the power supply is probably fine.

Edit: The light is orange when the box is ON or its orange when its off?

I can tell you that I went through that same troubleshooting bit when i had a red ring, and the light on my power supply was green. If your light isn't green, then I don't know... Maybe it's a problem with the power supply? I guess you'll have to speak with a Microsoft rep one way or the other, but you're not going to want to send in the wrong thing.

Odd. My power supply is orange when the system is off, and green when it's on. I always assumed that's the normal behavior? If yours is orange when the system is on, then it's likely a problem.

I had that problem a few months before my truly red ring. I just unplugged everything from the wall and xbox waited a minute and plugged it all back in. If it is the power supply error, it should be fixable.

Well, upon further inspection, it does look like it's green, or a yellowish green. When I unplug it from the xbox, it turns into a darker, definately color of orange, but plugged in it changes to a lighter tone, so hopefully that's it. Called microsoft and they're sending me the coffin. How long does it usually take once I ship it out if I'm in the US?(Texas)
