No one is suggesting that they stay the same forever. Likewise I'm sure Capcom have the capabilities and technical no how to be able to make a game where you walk and shoot. They are just taking an 'it aint broke, so dont fix it' attitude.
Also, I wouldnt say resident evil 4 is better than REmake. They are different games, REmake had the perfect survival horror atmosphere and mechanic in my oppinion. Resident evil 4 is equally good for different reasons.
They didnt revamp the original either, they made a new game with the same name, it wasnt even going to be a resident evil game originally.
Im not arguing the fact that it should never evolve or anything like that, im just defending the control style because I like them, just as you dont like them and are complaining about them.
Shock horror, people have different oppinions.

Hey, so if Capcom is pretty much done with RE5 now, does that mean they can start working on Dead Rising 2? Because that would be great. If it would make Capcom happy, they could even throw in an optional control scheme was outdated five years ago. Just for fun.

Anyway, unless Capcom decides to bring the RE controls at least up to speed with Dead Space, I'm gonna be avoiding the RE games like the plague.

I hear the same-screen co-op splits the screen in a weird way, though. May want to look into that.

To be fair, I can take a screen being split in a weird way as long as the game actually allows me to play local co-op.

There seems to be a lot of "L4D makes me unable to enjoy RE" sentiment around. I don't get this. I mean, the games are very, very different. Sure they both have zombies, but the similarities end there, so what do we think? Random fanboy bitching?

The Resident Evil 5 demo's online co-op mode is no longer accessible outside of Japan, reports X3F. While our friends have not verified the mode's status inside Japan, X3F confirms that users outside of Japan are auto-magically signed out of Xbox Live upon launching the demo, which is, officially, only available in Japan. But a workaround makes the content accessible worldwide, and a built-in English language option further fuels the temptation. C'mon, everybody else is doing it ...

It seems, though, that Microsoft is now filtering IP addresses that connect to the demo's servers, apparently denying any that don't originate from Japan. Stopping short of redirecting your Xbox Live connection through a proxy server (note: it may sound like we know what we're talking about -- but we really have no idea), demo players outside of Japan will have to settle for offline play until the official releases hit their regions. Look at it this way: it beats being banned.

So...they turned off the Live co-op outside of Japan(well, so it seems), so trying to play while signed in won't let the game load. Pop up the guide and sign out to play locally. :|

Dunno why they don't just release it here already...

I was all pissed because I wasted 2 DVDs earlier burning it the wrong way, and then when I got the third one right it was telling me I couldn't play it and I was all mad until I read your post. <3 legacy

Also, holy fuck this game is intense. Took some getting used to the controls, but it reminds me of RE4 and that is a very good thing.

Games that barely have anything in common get compared all the time. Look at the Resistance 2 Vs Gears 2, they aren't even the same genre. Its just a shame capcom have done so little in certain areas. One of those areas being, the animation of the infected. Its just made all the more noticeable, after seeing how well it can be done.

They certainly are different games, i wouldn't want them to be the same also. I'll like L4D for its 28 Days Later style atmosphere. Also, how well suited it is to quick jump in, jump out gaming. But i'll enjoy spending a solid amount of time with RE5, and taking in the story line. Preforming coop moves, and sharing guns/ammo, are also really neat aspects to RE5.

I'm pretty sure we prominantly threw that one around in the Evil for the 4th time forum, without spoilers. Sorry if I stole your thunder. It was also in one of the trailers I believe, so it will probably be common knowledge early enough in the game.

L4D is totally separate from the RE series in my mind. It's Dead Space that's going to lower my enjoyment of RE. I'll still love it, don't get me wrong, but it's gonna take me a few hours to stop trying to slowly back up or strafe while aiming. It's a design element I really think should have been adopted, it would have been a good addition to the series.

Do people actually have an attachment to these characters in such horribly written, B-movie style games? When I heard about that all I hoped for was a hilarious MIIIIIIKEE kind of scene.

I just have a couple of questions. Also, I apologize in advance if these were asked before, but I'm on my lunch break at work and didn't have time to read the whole thread. I loaded up my japanese live account, and got that same error about the region crap. Now, someone said that if you sign out of xbox live, then load up the demo, it will work. Then there are those of you saying something about needing to burn it to a dvd. What exactly do I need to do to get this demo to work on my American 360? Also, how would you burn a 360 file to a dvd? Apparently I am even more of a techno-noob than I was aware.

Ive finished the demo and here's my review. I have gone back and forth consistently on if I like it or hate it, and I still don't know.

    I LIKE:
-it's very very nice to look at.
-some co-op is really cool. The part in shanty town where I flip Shiva over the bridge and she goes into the building was awesome. Picking off zombies while she fights them inside is only going to be cooler when the person inside is my friend.
-The explosions. Seriously. It's a selling point. There are no better looking explosions in games, anywhere. Every person I've shown this too has gone "Ooooooooh!" when I blow up a barrel for the first time.
-The new close combat stuff. Chris' "Hook" is just the definition of bad ass. He just punches zombies IN THE FACE.

    I DISLIKE:
-it's less and less like "Resident Evil" every time, and this one takes the cake. RE4 took us away from "Survival Horror" that I loved, and this one looks to take away that campy feel. In the "shanty town" segment, when the helicopter pilot said "Fuck" I really really was turned off. I love me some good ol' swearing, but it just isn't for this game, I thought. I don't recall any F-Bombs in RE4, and it's just totally out of place and unnecessary. I don't mind it in GTA because thats the way it's ALWAYS been, but I liked RE for its cheesey dialogue, and trying to make it "Real" by putting "Fuck" and "Shit" within 10 seconds of each other was REALLY off-putting.
-Also, kind of tying into the above point, it's not just a special squad anymore, it's superheroes. The same Shiva backflip that launched the cool co-op segment in Shanty Town also really bothered me. You just did a backflip off my hands? REALLY? I remember thinking Jill, Chris, Leon, ect... were all skilled cops and agents. Like SWAT team people. But not invincible. Thats what made it fun. Leon was a rookie cop, but a damn good cop, so you felt like you had the skills to survive, but it wouldnt be easy. Even RE4 managed to keep that feeling. Leon was alone, and his jumps through windows and across platforms all had that "look" of a skilled person trying to use his training. The animations made it look like he'd stumble, or he'd struggle to pull it off. Once I saw her do that jump I realized we had totally left any feeling of "Surviving against the odds". She looked like she does that stuff all the time. She just did a flip of MY HANDS. I'd say the odds are much closer to EVEN.
-Why are my herbs a mist? Why do I pick up a potted plant and its suddenly a vial? Someone better explain that to me ASAP, because you do NOT mess with the timeless green, yellow, red herb formula.
-The Co-Op also severely screws me up. I have shot at Shiva so many times. I'm not used to having a second person in RE games, and although I'll get used to it, it just feels like a giant escort mission. I keep accidentally shooting her because I'm used to RE games being me, fending for myself, fighting to survive, and killing everything that moves. She darts out ahead sometimes and I just instinctively shoot her.
-I hate the new inventory system. I'd rather have it totally pause and be unrealistic that I managed to heal, re-load a weapon and then change weapons all in on fraction of a second, than what it is now. Nothing takes me out of an intense moment like turning around, running far away and knowing that most plagas will NOT really chase me, then stopping and futzing with my inventory. When Im done, I turn around and run back. It's just stupid. Its not like Left For Dead (I agree its dumb to make comparisons, but this isn't comparing the game, just the inventory system), where you really only manage 4 things, and theyve created a constant sense that anything could come at anytime, so healing is usually a tense situation. I can run away, and the plagas will slowly meander towards me, but even the giant hammer guy in the 1st part of the demo didn't move THAT fast. So I run to another room, and know that I have a decent chunk of time to do whatever. It kills any suspense I had. Previous RE's were crazy because while running away to play with inventory was still always an option, most times I wouldnt do it because Id be in a panic. You'd pause, try to set yourself up, and know that the second you unpause it's still all going to hell. Now that's all lost.

So I will say that despite my cons outweighing my pros, I think this still will be a MONTH #1 purchase. Not day 1, but I see Co-Op being pretty fun when it's another person. I love me some RE, but honestly I wish what they did was kill off Resident Evil at Code Veronica, and re-launch with the title "Umbrella Chronicles". Because RE4 had nothing to do in terms of plot, and especially in terms of style and gameplay with the rest of the series, and RE5 seems to be the one that finally severs any ties to "Resident Evil" as I knew it unfortunately. It doesnt make it a BAD game, just not what I expected.

    Um...

Yeah, I mostly agree with you. I had issues with Leon's super roundhouse kicks and suplexes and shit in RE4, so it isn't really a shock here.

But... I don't think you CAN shoot Sheva. I don't know, maybe I am just that fuckin' good and I've never actually put a cap in her.

The real-time inventory system and the mist herbs are just for co-op, imo. Would suck trying to play when your shitty ass buddy keeps pausing the game with his menu. And I just assumed that you have some kinda canister or equipment where you can shove an herb in a vial and stick it into a dispenser that mist-i-fies it or something. It's nice because it heals both Chris and Sheva.

Yeah, your herb explanation makes sense, haha. I was exaggerating a bit because it just seems like nothing even resembles Resident Evil anymore in this game. The thing is - can you play solo? I dont think you have the option of completely removing Sheva, which I'd love. The realtime inventory and misty herb stuff is great for co-op, but it seems like this game is going to be MADE for Co-op, which I have an issue with.

And I don't think I've ever done DAMAGE to Sheva, I just mean in the middle of things I've caught myself firing at her enough that it's bothered me. I've never unloaded a full clip into her, but in the heat of battling zombies, it sucks when I fire off two quick shots, realize I'm shooting at HER, and let a zombie break down a door in the meantime because I was distracted.
