i was reading my paper today as i always do
there was this headline about detainees in guantanamo bay bein' tortured by listening to crappy rock, the sesame street theme, "I Love You" from Barney, and the worst fate a man can endure:
David Gray's "Babylon"
those poor bastards!
now, i can listen to shitty music at a high volume as well as the next guy
but some of these cats were exposed to little or no music whatsover and have been going crazy, hitting their heads off of walls and shit
got me thinking
you know, i wouldn't try to replicate the same on myself and doing so wouldn't have as traumatic to me (TO MY KNOWLEDGE) as i ain't a virgin to music, as many of these cats have been...but!
i can't help but wonder what psychological catalysts in the mind go shooting around during the breaking down of the human spirit
not out of some morbid need to observe and chuckle, beavis and butthead style
just curiosity!

and then I thought that if you keep going faster and faster, you reach a point where traveling a given distance takes no time at all, and then less than no time; it would take negative time
this all made sense to my 13-year-old brain but of course now I know that it doesn't work like this
I was an odd kid
hi5
i actually remember putting babylon on a mix cd i made for a girl back in high school (because i am a big vagina). some other songs on that mix were inoj's time after time and eagle eye cherry - save tonight. i was awful
a man who might've never have heard music hears the barney end theme and to him it sounds plodding, slow and menacing
he doesn't know what tone the goofy voiceover actor from that show has so for all he knows it could be a warning to give up information as soon as possible or a painful death awaits him
like, go to youtube and jot down that theme song
and try listening to it with your eyes closed now
it will never leave
i love save tonight :<
then when they turn eighteen jokes on them they don't need the helmet and they can't get rid of the speech impediment
when that song first came out I was working at Noodles and Co.
and I must've heard it at least 10 times a shift
once a customer commented on how much he liked it and i nearly ripped a chunk out of the counter I had to grip it so hard to keep from saying anything
yay hi5. i felt like i was the only one to get suckered into buying his cd based off that one song. i also love falling in love again and still put it in random mix cds whenever i get a chance
at my job the mario kart double dash theme is constantly played
the only time i don't hear it is on break and lunch
the worst thing is when someone starts whistling with the theme and they whistle it wrong
it just fucks with my head
They just want to break their spirits Butters, not their minds. It's pretty hard to interrogate a guy who has swallowed his own tongue
let's go see what it turns up

would've been better without those last two lines in the first post though
i wish threads didn't need to all have a discussion topic nowadays
It's also like -13 degrees, 5 for you unmetric folk here outside during daytime.
I don't think I've heard this song. On a scale from Fred Durst to Celine Dion, how bad is it?
For example, apparently there was a jungle-dwelling tribe in Africa that, due to the high tree density, never experienced extreme depth perception. So when they were taken out of the jungle and saw an elephant, they thought it was just really tiny (they couldn't understand that it was small because it was far away.)
And one about cats raised in cylindrical boxes marked with black and white vertical stripes, who could barely function when removed from the boxes because they couldn't grasp the concept of a horizontal surface, and vice versa.
Those are all about occipital lobe development, though, since the brain fills in visual patterns and forms a massive library in the developmental stages. I think that auditory studies would be very different, since even if you've never heard music you'd still have heard all of the different vibrations that comprise music individually through speech and other noise.
obnoxious whistling ensues

FUN FACT: During the siege at Waco, Charlton Heston was hired to play the voice of God, to be played subliminally over telephone conversations with David Koresh. The only reason that they never played the messages was that the guy who knew how to make subliminal messages refused to sign a liability waiver in case all the waco people went krazy and shot themselves or something.
if i don't somebody gets confused like "dude livejournal " and lately there has been an emphasis on more direction
