Residual pain from an IUD?

Question, my friends.

I have a lady friend who's getting an IUD and wants to resume sex immediately. Is this a bad idea, pain wise? Her doctor has told her she should take a 'rest period', but she doesn't know if this is standard 'safe doctor answer' or what. If she has sex the day after the procedure is she likely to suffer any unusual discomfort?

I think this is the coil. If that's the case then, from personal experience, I had no problems resuming the sexings. Though she probably won't feel like it for a couple of days.

Despite what she says now, she is going to be SORE after the procedure. She won't want to have sex.

After I got my IUD, it wasn't so much the pain or the cramping afterwards that stopped the sexing, it was the unbelievably disgusting discharge.

The pain during/right after the procedure really wasn't that bad. The cramping for a couple days afterwards wasn't any worse than normal period cramps.

But the discharge... heck, I almost puked, so I'm sure that my husband would have puked.

One thing to remember is that everyone reacts differently to the coil. So, while she'll probably be ok, there's no end of things which may mean she doesn't wish to have sex. Also, for a small minority of women the pain never goes away and they end up having it removed. It's a very good method of contraception, but as with any medical thing, some people may have problems with it.
