Computer Not Recognizing Keyboard

The tittle says it. This computer is sort of having some issues, but right now I just want to get the keyboard working. Basically no matter what USB port or what keyboard I use, it will not detect it. It also tells me there is a microsoft keyboard under the hardware profiles but that it is either not there, not working, or doesn't have the right drivers. I've tried uninstalling it, reinstalling it, and I have the disk for the keyboard software. Any theories?

Reboot and try to go into your BIOS (when you first turn on your computer, it will say something like 'Press Del to enter Setup'; press whatever key it tells you to) or hammer on the F8 button while booting, to see if it will give you the prompt to choose Safe Mode.

If neither of these things work, then your keyboard is broken and you need to buy a new one.

If one or both of those works, then your keyboard is fine. Try uninstalling whatever keyboard driver software you have installed (you can probably find it under Add/Remove Programs), then uninstall the driver in Device Manager, then reboot.

Actually keyboard may not be broken. I had this happen to me a few weeks ago. My computer would not recognize any USB or PS/2 keyboard I would plug in. I should clarify and say Windows and not my computer, Linux would recognize the keyboard just fine.

I can tell you how I fixed it if you want to give it a shot. Give me a sec to type it up and I'll post it as a edit to this post.

Actually I should ask this first, is this XP? If so is it an OEM install (meaning it came pre-installed on your comp)?

I've actually tried two keyboards and two harddrives with windows on them. Nothing works. Also tried different USB ports. And yes any help is good :)

Errr, if you tried two different installs of windows then what I did won't help you. My problem was with windows... yours just sounds bizzare... :|
