I have a friend I am christmas shopping for and I am out of ideas. He bought the xbox years ago basically for Halo so of course he has Halo 1 and 2 and I have since got some good mileage out of it in holiday seasons by buying him KOTOR and, most recently, Ninja Gaiden Black. He enjoys simpler pleasures, and somehow ended up plowing through both those games and enjoyed them immensely and was happy to get some use out of his system.
His PC is an absolutely ancient P4 laptop that could, to give you an idea, barely run Oni or Dungeon Siege - other games that he enjoyed.
"Technical" games are iffy - e.g. Soul Calibur, since he doesn't enjoy lots of memorization or thinking on 999 different levels and immediately just gravitates to the cheapest, easiest moves in those kind of games. (Though he did enjoy Oni, but that was mainly using guns to kill everything so... I have no idea how he beat Ninja Gaiden because I have not actually ever played the game but he enjoyed the shit out of it even though it was impossible so my information may be outdated at this point.)
Anyway, I've been wracking my brains and I can't think of any other "must-buys" that will run on his hardware, so is there anything I missed?
I guess KOTOR 2 is an option, but its main appeal is the writing more than all the parts that are no fun whatsoever so...

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

Fable: The Lost Chapters
If he likes horror games: Fatal Frame or Silent Hill series are good.
Jade Empire
Mechassault
Stranger's Wrath
Phantom Dust (Maybe, it's a odd card game. Good though)
Prince of Persia
Star Wars: Battlefront
Star Wars: Republic Commando
The Bards Tale
The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
Unreal Championship 2
X-Men Legends
Jade Empire
Otogi 1/2
Jet Set Radio Future
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
Crimson Skies
There are even more mutli-plat games if he didn't own a gamecube or PS2.
Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction is definitely brilliant.
Hitman: Blood Money is the best of the series.
I'll also second Psychonauts and Stranger's Wrath.
I probably described it wrong since we are out of touch so much these days, but for example I would not buy him Civilization or a slow boring game like Morrowind. I think action/arcade titles are the best, or if they are more heady they have to have some simple universal appeal like being a dick in KOTOR.
He did buy Splinter Cell at one point because he heard it was good and then it immediately got stolen, and has shown a penchant for liking terrible games simply because they are his terrible games. Same with games that fall outside his normal tastes.
Edit: Heh, those are some glowing fucking reviews for Oddworld, looks like we have a winner.

If he likes to blow shit the fuck up, which it sounds like he does: Black is a winner.
If he's into games that freak you the fuck out: Call of Cthulhu - Dark Corners of the Earth will have him afraid of, well, everything. Especially fishermen.
If he likes the look/action shooter style of RE4/5 but doesn't have a PS2 or Cube: Cold Fear does a pretty decent job apeing it.
Note to self - reference thread later from home.
Can trade TF2 items or whatever else you're interested in. PM me.
it is basically as arcadey of a racing game as you can get these days, plus it's still really nice looking
For pure insanity I liked Revenge better, since you could plow through traffic rather than crashing.

I'd say just stick with Chaos Theory. One was good, but, in my opinion, Chaos Theory is still the best SC game to come out yet.
Also, I agree with Call of Cthulu and Beyond Good and Evil. Both solid choices.
Also, I personally enjoyed playing Sudeki. Granted, I seem to be the only one I know who even played it, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
Burnout 3
Psychonauts
Burnout 3
Otogi 1 & 2
Burnout 3
Beyond Good and Evil
Burnout Takedown ... aka Burnout 3
The Price of Persia Trilogy... uh... that is the uh, Sands of Time and its sequel The Two Thrones, are both pretty good too.
Also Burnout 3.
Diablo?
Steam profile.
Getting started with BATTLETECH: Part 1 / Part 2
Sniper Elite
Thief: Deadly Shadows
Demon Stone
Rogue Trooper
And agreed on Republic Commando, Riddick, Mechassault, and Splinter Cell. All great games.
Unreal Tournament (he original one) is still a good multiplayer FPS, and there are people playing online even today. Botmatches are pretty good too, and it had a VAST selection of mods available for it, although by now I'm sure a lot of them won't be online anymore. This one's also available from gog.com.
I'd recommend getting Deus Ex off of Steam if he doesn't mind RPG's. Plenty of action, and also plenty of opportunities to be a jerk.
