By default, I ended up running my company's email server. We've got a pretty simple domain and exchange server with about 15 clients. The POP side of our email is hosted by Earthlink, and everyone uses the exchange server in the office for SMTP.
Long story short, we're sending a laptop out to a new employee who will work in another state. I've set up his address through earthlink, I've got Outlook configured on the laptop, but I'm running into a problem. He is not recieving email from anyone on the exchange server from the home office location. Mail from outside providers, ie Gmail work fine, but nothing from the company.
What I'm guessing is happening is the local computers are sending email to the exchange server because his email matches the exchange server rather than sending it out of the network through earthlink. I don't really want to go through and configure each computer in the office to use the earthlink SMTP server instead of our exchange one.
Sorry for the ramble, but does anyone have any ideas?
Go ahead and lock this please. I just took everyone off the the exchange server and configured them to use earthlink's smtp and pop servers.
The way it was set up, we used the exchange server for SMTP and the POP plugin for incoming mail. The two downsides to that was the 15 minute wait to recieve new mail because the POP connector only downloaded mail on a 15 minute interval and any mailbox configured on Earthlink's servers wouldn't receive mail from anyone using exchange for SMTP.

Exchange is just serving as a mail delivery service, not as a mail storage service, right?
So all of your company email is being stored on Earthlink's servers?
