They're not too overpowered, but they're definitely getting nerfed a bit in the next rebalance. Everyone, including Relic, has acknowledged that certain units just need to be toned down a bit. It's the same for PE as well.
The main thing is that fighting against Brits requires you to be insanely aggressive so people with average skill or less tend to get completely stomped by them. (I'm in this category)
Slit trenches need to not confer complete invincibility against stuff inside them for a start.

Mortars are pretty uselss against trenches. Which doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

especially when your guys can MISS their sniper ability. I was all geared up to run and and take it, but whoops, my sniper missed his shot on the last machine gunner in the building lol everyone get pinned.

If it had been me at the bottom you would have had no problem. Recon can easily beat Volksgrenadiers. Did you make a bren carrier at all toons?
Transports troops, can have a vickers mounted on it for 50 munitions. These are essential to british play.

Try Royal Commandos or Royal Artillery next time. I like Royal Commandos for their versatility.
