I'm giving online dating a crack and I've allready hit a speed bump so I am turning to you trusted folks here to set me straight. no homo
I've responded to what appears to be an authentic listing, on craig's list, for a gal in my area. I have received what also appears to be an authentic response asking me to sign up for a free website so that we can chat. Well the link I was sent (for a site labeled in the e-mail as thedatingarea.com), redirected me to a site called singlesnet.com. Upon signing up I did a search for the screen name provided and came up with nothing. Allthough the answer seems pretty apparent after typing this out- Was I simply duped into increaseing this websites traffic/membership?
Assuming the answer to that question is yes- Is this type of thing pretty much par for the course and what is the most results oriented way (as in finding a girlfriend) to go about this?
Any site recommendations or success stories from you fine folks would be appreciated.

Don't go to another sign and register so you guys can chat, make an MSN or AIM screen name instead.
Okcupid is actually pretty cool.
I've had a few friends use plentyoffish.com with success. Some used it for one night stands, others used it for actual dating.
