Game Damage

This might be a few weeks old but I dont remember seeing it here and I just now saw it (was an ad for it at the end of this week's Zero Punctuation)

http://www.gamedamage.net/

It appears to be a show starring Yahtzee from ZP and I guess his two friends. My take on it is it seems almost like a Top Gear for games. Some of it is pretty cheezy and not funny but hey its a first show and the first year of Top Gear sucked so I think it has promise. the recurring Duke Nukem segments were probably the funniest.

*edit* I guess it was posted to youtube 2 days ago so its pretty new.

It is pretty horrible. I like when they laugh at each others' jokes. It makes me want to laugh along. And by laugh along I mean kick them in their faces.

I was amused by it. I'm not too sure about the guys besides Yahtzee, but if it continues, I'll give it a shot. I was amused by the comedy segments. Heck, I even liked Yahtzee's "post mortem" on Adventure games.

All in all, a nice first effort. Still want to see the full video of Yahtzee wielding the chainsaw against the 360 they showed briefly in the opening segment.

They seem to be sitting on top of a major continental fault because they keep wobbling all the damn time.

    The rest was alright.

Kinda like a low budget on the spot.

Eh, there's some good, some bad. Hopefully later episodes are going to be better as they refine their formula a bit better.

Gotta say though, I like the fact that there was just that 1 alienware commercial.

Can't say I liked the Warhammer segment though.

"Oh yeah it's a pretty game, but emulates WoW and feels like it has no soul..." That's not a way to talk about a game based on beating the crap out of other players.

Some of the skits were fun. Some were getting dull. Although "strippers!" was a fun little twist.

the skits were alright, duke nukem were the best, MGS were pretty bad. The adventure game post mortem was definitely the best part of the thing. I think it has potential, once they get more comfortable on camera and such. It's the same with everything like this, I mean go back and listen to the first GFW (CGW) radio podcasts, they are just so damn awkward the whole time and sound like they hate being there.

I think the problem is they've taken yahtzee (who is funny), and put him with two other guys who are less funny. They have essentially diluted the funny. If they could find two other guys who are equally as good as yahtzee (and I don't mean "as funny", they could bring something else to the team, for instance someone a little more... charismatic shall we say), they could be onto a winner here.

As it stands though, this is a little painful to watch, but with nuggets of funny buried in bad jokes and talking over each other.

Now please eject your brain via your face.

Yahtzee is funny partially due to the visual segment of his shows. Without this, and without a tight script and talking fast... he's just as terrible as the other two.

That was bad and now I'm in a bad mood because of it.

You can just see it on Yahtzee's face, "I'm SO fucking funny."

Then they add in the two douchenozzles laughing next to him and it makes me want to die.

edit: Also the third guy bragging about having a girlfriend that plays WoW and then realizing he just sounded pathetic so he tries to make a self-disparaging remark to show that he's not, in fact, a douche when in fact he just appears pathetic to the viewer the whole time.

    GG guys.

I've been following this for a while. The first couch scene is fucking ancient and it's awkward as hell. People have raised this on the forums and it shows that they've learned in the later segments.

I really enjoyed this, actually. There were a couple of genuine laugh-out-loud moments and that Edge of Twilight game looks interesting, and I had never heard of it. I'm looking forward to seeing where they take it.

I can not think of a single nice thing to say about Game Damage.

Oh, wait - the effort put into post-production puts much of what pollutes the Internet to shame. I don't like the opening sequence, but at least it seems well-made. I suppose somebody deserves credit for that.

What a pity that everything else is irredeemably shit.
You can just see it on Yahtzee's face, "I'm SO fucking funny."

Yahtzee looked out of place, actually. The other two guys seemed more like 'just some gamers', while Yahtzee was trying to do his ZP thing and hate on everything. Like, he never smiled on camera, and was rarely positive (because that's what he does), which really came through as odd compared to the other two.

It was mediocre. Everything was 'eh'. Part of was because it felt like they were telling me things I already knew, instead of actual like, gaming reviews or exclusives or things like that.

Another shitty internet gaming tv show.

Somebody just needs to work out a way of putting gaming content into a 'Top Gear' like show format shell. This, I think kind of shoots for that target in some ways, with three wildly different yet similar guys presenting, laughing at each others' jokes and whatnot, but it spectacularly misses the target.

God only knows how any gaming content would work in such a format. The people who work it out will become stinking rich, though.

I have to agree with the general consensus.

All three aren't camera friendly. Yahtzee is much funnier in his original ZP slot. He reminds of Mr. Burns trying to contort emotions on his face.

The douchebag in the middle just needs to go. I couldn't find anything positive about him, other than he looks like the type of guy that would be the catcher in a gay porn.
The doofus at the end can read a card well, but offers just as much as douchebag in the middle, with a teaspoon of pathetic.

I tried to watch this last night, but for some reason the video always stopped loading half way through, regardless of how many times I refreshed the page.

Still, from what I saw it has potential. That’s probably the most praise I can give it.

Oh, and the other two guys are from Australian gamer. They do a podcast which has the occasional Yahtzee appearance, and they’ve all become good friends over time.

    Yeah it wasn't great

I would say the two other guys were ok, they at least seemed comfortable and acted like they enjoyed hosting the show

I don't know if Yahtzee is just playing to what's expected, but the dude just seemed really awkward. He needs to laugh and smile and look at the others sometimes instead of straight into the camera.

Besides that though it was pretty good. The skits will come along in time

I'm sort of confused about Yahtzee. Now, is he fucking with us ALL the time and just playing the part of a douchebag or is he really a douchebag? I think some of his reviews are funny but I can't take anything he says seriously when he shits all over great games, imo, like Bioshock, GTA4, Mass Effect among many others. I've asked this type of thing in other threads about him and was basically told..."You don't get it man, he's just over your head." To which I reply a hearty "Fuck you." and get banned. It's just wacky to see people say things like "Oh he was spot on with that review." Followed the next week by saying...."Well, that's just the way he is, he doesn't like anything, don't take it the review so seriously etc." So long post longer...what the fuck is his story?

This would've worked better with a podcast and them doing the skits as separate thing. So at least they can still talk about games and then skits would tank and we could have another podcast where we hear their opinions.

But I feel like 1up.com already does these things a bit better than they do. Yahtzee should just move across the Earth and get a job with them there, lawls.

He said himself that his viewers prefer it when he rips into games, so he rips into games. Many thought that his reviews of Psychonauts and The Orange Box were boring. That said, his opinions are truly his own, and they're honest, if often exaggerated for comic effect. Some people have very high standards, or are critical by nature.

P.S. This discussion gets threads locked.
