Or where we live. It's too risky, and we've got to be careful. Really careful. So we don't trust anyone. Because if they find us... well, we just won't let them find us.
The thing you should know is that everyone is in really big trouble. Yeah. Even you.

Yes, this is the Animorph thread. What are the Animorphs, you ask?
from wiki:
Animorphs is an English language science fiction series of young adult books written by K. A. Applegate and published by Scholastic. Five humans, one of whom eventually becomes a hawk, and one alien obtain the ability to morph into any animal they touch; they name themselves "Animorphs", the name meaning "animal morphers". Using their ability, they battle a secret alien infiltration of Earth. It is told in first person, with a different narrator in every book. Applegate cycles through the six protagonists, telling their story of the secret war through each of their perspectives. By using this, she explores many of the dark aspects of the human condition. Horror, war, dehumanization, sanity, morality, innocence, leadership, and growing up are core motifs of the series.
From June 1996 to May 2001, the series consisted of 54 books and includes 10 companion books; 8 of which fit into the series' continuity (the Animorphs Chronicles and Megamorphs books) and two are gamebooks that do not fit in the continuity (the Alternamorphs books). The characters grow up throughout the series, struggling to cope with the horrors of war, the acts which they commit, and the compromises and retreats they must make to win the war (and sometimes, even just to survive). The series allows the reader to observe the human condition as these six "normal" children are forced by their new, deadly circumstances to face the darkest, and also the brightest, parts of themselves.
There was a TV show, video games, and Transformer action figures. It was a series for middle schoolers, but it dealt with some real mature themes. Though most of the books were ghostwritten, the author at least created the outlines for the stories.
Applegate originally intended to write every Animorphs book herself. However, due to many contributing factors - such as the birth of her son, and the difficulties involved in writing Everworld (which was originally intended to be mostly ghostwritten, like Applegate's third Scholastic series Remnants), she ended up having to have a large number of the books ghostwritten.
She came up with a variety of species, including the arrogant, telepathic centaur-like Andalites, the brain controlling Yeerks, the pacifistic walking Swiss Army Knives known as the Hork Bajir, and the perpetually hungry, cannibalistic centipede like aliens called Taxxons. There were some other minor species that pop up occasionally, as well as the meddling Ellimist and Crayak.
Tl;dr, we discuss Animorphs here.

Oh, man. I read the hell out of these books when I was a kid. The whole ghostwriter thing is kind of a letdown, though. I never knew that.

On the other hand. Ghostwriter was an awesome show. So, you know. Unexpected nostalgia bonus.

This ought to help, for those who didn't finish the series. I have most of the books, but I'm still trying to finish the collection.

Despite the lackluster sales of the toys, some leftover molds were retooled into the Mutants for Beast Wars. They were beast to beast transformers, with robot parts replacing the human parts. One of them, a velociraptor to wolverine toy, was supposed to be an Andalite.

Also, fuck Applegate for short-shrifting the end of the series. She was so eager to birth another cash cow that she deliberately scuttled the ending, which was at least part of the reason for the BAD END.

You don't fucking end a long-ass series with a cliffhanger. If you've made your audiences sit through 30+ books you finish the goddamn story, because that's what they deserve after spending their time and money on your work.

No, go ahead and kill them. But make sure everyone knows they're dead, and what happened afterward, somehow.

Shit, I barely even remember the end of Animorphs, I'm mostly just reading the Wiki here.

I remember it ended up bing like Tobias' momor something and it all connected back to the series somehow. There were aliens with wheels for legs too at one part and they could also flay I thing. Man that book rocked.

Yeah, that was awesome. I own all of the Chronicles, and that was probably my favorite, with next being the Ellimist Chronicles. It explained a lot, and I thought it was amusing that he always played games, even before he was a near deity.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skrit_Na
They have a life cycle similar to caterpillars and butterflies: they start as Skrit, which are similar to giant insects. The Skrits seem to be relativately unintelligent, and are used to perform simple tasks on the ships. After some time they weave a cocoon. A Na emerges about a year later, which looks like the famous "Grey" aliens reported by alien abductees, and in fact, it is suggested that the Skrit Na are indeed the Greys, given that their appearance, activities and even their ship design is the same. Elfangor describes the Na emerging from a "dead" Skrit, which may indicate that the Skrit does not transform into a Na, but actually gives birth to it or something similar.
