Paraponera is a genus of ant consisting of a single species, the so-called bullet ant (P. clavata), named on account of its powerful and potent sting, which is said to be as painful as being shot with a bullet. A few years ago I worked with Americorps at a lake
During the winter we put on these eagle programs to locals
We had a group of 8-10 kids with their parents all with binoculars checkin out this particular group of eagles circling overhead of a small flock of ducks on an area of the lake that hadn't quite froze over yet
One of the eagles dives down and snatches one of the young ducklings quick as shit and proceeds to spiral back into the air with it
Way way into the air all the while these kids are just watching
Back at cruising altitude it decides to show the duckling what falling feels like and releases it over a patch of ice
For a good 5 or 6 seconds we all watch silently as this yellow dot plummets back to earth
