The Dark Tower, lets talk about it.
For those who don't know:
The Dark Tower is a series of seven books written by American author Stephen King between 1970 and 2004. The series incorporates themes from multiple genres, including fantasy fiction, science fantasy, horror and western elements. They describe a gunslinger's quest toward a tower whose nature the books call both physical and metaphorical. King has described the series as his magnum opus; besides the seven novels that compose the series proper, many of his other books relate to the story, introducing concepts and characters that come into play as the series progresses.
The series was chiefly inspired by the poem "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came" by Robert Browning, whose full text was included in the final volume's appendix. In the preface to the revised 2003 edition of The Gunslinger, King also identifies The Lord of the Rings, the Arthurian Legend, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly as inspirations. He identifies Clint Eastwood's "Man with No Name" character as one of the major inspirations for the protagonist, Roland Deschain. King's style of location names in the series, such as Mid-World, and his development of a unique language abstract to our own, are also influenced by J. R. R. Tolkien's work.
I just finished this today. I had finished Wizard and Glass about seven years ago and forgot about the series mainly because of the long breaks in between the books. So about three months ago my wife was reading the Twilight books (Ugh...) and I thought, I guess I could see how far Stephen King was on the DT series. To my delight he was finished.
I really enjoyed the last three, with wild turns, strange twists and even some metafiction tossed in. It was certainly unlike anything I have read before.
Ending Spoilers...seriously don't ruin it for yourself if you haven't finished it!!!
So, Stephen King even warns you that you should stop reading, telling you that the journey is the point. (I even closed the book thinking that I was happy with the "ending" and should leave it alone. But then I thought that I was too much like Roland to not finish what took so long to get to.) The Tower even tells Roland not to worry about his hand or his guns because he will have them back, he will be whole again. And Ka spits him out back at the begining! Ka is a wheel and it spins.
But what of his horn? the one he lost on Jerico Hill? why does he have it back? What did you guys think of the end?
I'll probably think about it some more and write more but I wanted to give you all a chance to sound off about it.
Please keep Spoilers spoiled, this is a long series and people have waited and read too much to ruin it unless they want to ruin it.
Say Thankya Sai...

Has anyone been following the comics? I picked up the first "graphic novel" and thought it was pretty great, but haven't read anything since.
Wizard and Glass is pretty damn good, The Drawing of the 3 is my favorite though
Song of Susannah is the fucking worst, it was an absolute chore to get through
the ending was a pretty big let down, and yes, it says that he has the horn this time so the next time should be different
and i about puked when King wrote himself into the story
Drawing of the Three is the best one
so disappointing
and the attack on the Breaker compound
but we know how that ended, so its not so great
better on the starting end than the rushed later books
but wow
the first and the third are probably my favorites, and very high on my list of favorite books in general
