I have felt this has been coming for the past couple of weeks. My oXbox is not loading as fast as it used to and sometimes it is not reading DVD's and game discs at all. This is my original gen 2 xbox that I have played constantly for 6 years. It has also surpassed two of his older, 360, cousins.
My main concern is all the game saves and mostly the downloadable content I have purchased over the years. In toll it's not more the $20 or so of Rainbow Six 3:BA and SW Battlefield 2 maps but I feel no need to repurchase these maps again. Since Microsoft no longer services or supports the oXbox I kind of stuck. Is it plausible and simple to exchange the hard drive from my new oXbox? Is there something like TCL (transfer content license) from your 360 allowed for your oXbox?
I know as far as game saves I can just buy a memory card but I'm talking about over 125 games here too.
There is probably some parts-business that will put your old hard drive into a working oXbox and will probably offer to mod the new one for you as well.

I don't know how Xbox DLC works. Do you have a gamertag? If you did, I can't imagine you could just download it to the 360.
(edit) It seems drives are locked to the console that they are formatted on. As a result, you'll need to unlock the drive on the original console, and then lock it on the new console. This process typically requires a modchip and homebrew apps.

Just bought a brand new oXbox off Ebay and am kind of stuck at this point. But great suggestion I didn't even think of a third party. Darn ...

That site should have all the info (and tools) you need.
I'm reading about HDD locking/unlocking. If you give me some time, I will try to refresh my memory to see if this will be necessary for you.
