Is anyone going to be on around 8-9pm EST tonight (the 29th)? Or at all tomorrow, the 30th? My girlfriend is really excited to go see some other people's towns. We're new, so we don't have a whole lot to trade or anything like that, we just kinda want to cruise around and check out other towns.

I might be able to arrange something but there ain't much to look at in my town so far.

If you get a chance check out Matt B's town his junk is noice.

    Our friend code is 5327-5212-0627

Name is Izzy in Iztown. Girlfriend's name is Kermie, also in Iztown, but I'm not sure if she would have a different code or not. We usually hop on about twice a day each, once in the morning and once in the evening, EST.

Edit: We are also having a problem with connecting to towns and opening our gate. It takes us 3-4 tries before we can connect to look for open towns, and whenever we open our gate we will get disconnected about 5 minutes later and lose all our progress. Is this a common problem with this game, or is it just our connection? I just installed a new wireless router yesterday so I think that damn think might be fickle and screwing up our Nintendo WFC

She will have a different code (which is annoying but understandable).

Is there any reason I would suddenly go on a fishing hot streak? I'm talking two tunas and several other rare fish in the period of 30 minutes. Whatever I'm doing, I want to know how to do it again.

Also - and I don't say this lightly - the fishing puns in City Folk are far worse than the ones in Wild World.

I missed it last night because it was flying over the most inconvenient stretch of my river and by the time I located it again it was five seconds away from going over the wall.

Not sure how often it reappears, if at all. I would hope once an hour, but I didn't play long enough to check.

    EDIT: Also, a theory...

I think you get one special visitor every day. Holidays and contests usually supply their own visitor. Nook's bonus points days (but probably not his special items?), Kicks, Phineas, and Gracie (has anyone seen her yet?) also count; maybe the other guy at the Marquee does as well, but Joan does not. If none of these are present, then be on the lookout for the UFO (I won't spoil it for those who didn't play WW), Pascal, Saharah, Wendell, Blanca, or the dreaded kitten/mom cat combo.

Has anyone encountered more than one of any of these on any given day -- or none? Bear in mind that it's entirely possible to miss the UFO and if there's more than one human in your town only one of you gets a crack at Pascal.

Red hippie sea otter; he camps out on your highest bridge when he's in town. He's pretty much useless unless you have a specific (uncommon) item in your possession, from what I've heard. He used to give you nautical furniture like a ship's cannon and such, but the one time I've run into him he just said his hippie crap and floated down the river.
The item is a scallop. Not a white scallop, as I discovered the time I talked to him, but a regular scallop. I don't remember what he gives you; it might still be the sea furniture. In WW he was the last step in a trading chain that resulted in the golden axe.

Booker isn't aware of him (or the UFO), since they don't arrive via the gate.

The guide isn't nearly as thorough as the WW guide was, to my recollection. But then, I haven't cracked the WW in more than a year so I don't know if a lot of my more specific information came from that or from internets. Either way, the WW guide was a better guide. Fish, insects, and fossils were organized better and not tossed in with the rest of the items like the CF guide, as well as telling you where, when, and what requirements (snow, etc.) bugs and insects appear. The one thing the new one does better are the calendars, which are handy, but don't have the aforementioned information included. Apparently there's a Japanese guide coming along eventually that will be much more thorough, according to some of the various AC forums. Which would be nice if it turns out to be so, because so much of the information we have on the various parts of the game is hearsay and conjecture, or at best incomplete.
Take, for example, the wearing down of the grass the more you walk or run on it, and the massive amounts of speculation about whether there is a way to make it grow back more quickly with flowers and trees, whether it grows back every day regardless of whether you load up the game or not (most are certain it doesn't regrow when you don't, which is silly considering weeds continue to pop up when you aren't there). I could go on about this particular pain in the ass, though, so I'll save that for later.

tl;dr: CF guide is not-so-great compared to guides for earlier versions.

Also, Vyolynce, thanks a bunch for the shelf! Your letter tickled me so much I screenshotted it.

Nooks is going to be closed for remodeling in Smafrica tomorrow. Which means I won't get to do my usual buy everything to catch up to my wife on the NPTS. She bought a bunch of triforces on 5x point day, about 50k bells' worth.

The guide isn't nearly as thorough as the WW guide was, to my recollection.

Possibly because the WW guide was made by Nintnedo Power. Since the magazine came under new management, Prima has done all of Nintendo's official guides, and I haven't bought a single one of them.

the massive amounts of speculation about whether there is a way to make it grow back more quickly with flowers and trees, whether it grows back every day regardless of whether you load up the game or not (most are certain it doesn't regrow when you don't, which is silly considering weeds continue to pop up when you aren't there).

I know this much: snowing doesn't replace melted snow! :(

I'm glad I made all of my snowmen, because it's getting harder and harder to find good places to roll 'em up.

Also, Vyolynce, thanks a bunch for the shelf! Your letter tickled me so much I screenshotted it.

I did something similar for the Clock I sent to Cullen, but "Jingle Clock" 1) isn't as smooth as "Jingle Shelves" and 2) invites a rather obvious rhyme, which I avoided despite great temptation.

EDIT: Remember, you can also save letters in the post office.

Which means I won't get to do my usual buy everything to catch up to my wife on the NPTS. She bought a bunch of triforces on 5x point day, about 50k bells' worth.

I bought my wife a white katana on my last 5x day. That pretty much single-handedly vaulted me well into Silver territory (36K and change x5...), plus filling out my Bonsai collection (yay transferring catalog from WW) didn't hurt.

Well, at least, on our game. Not sure if it shows the same on other people's cities...?

Sad thing is, even my wife herself says the room design is ugly compared to her other rooms. Guess Lyle just has strange taste...
