so, i got a new PC recently for playing a bit of Warhammer and L4D, it seems to be giving me the graphical occasional glitch however. spec is:

Shuttle SP35P2 Pro1
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz
4 gig DDR2 800Mhz PC2 6400
Sapphire RADEON HD 4850 512mb
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium x64Bit

and what i'm seeing is occasional blocks of texture or lines in both games:

is it likely a hardware or a software problem? it doesn't seem to be running hot, despite the small PC size and i've done a driver update, but still no joy...

thx all.

this used to happen to me when i played games on my desktop. turned out the graphics card was running too hot. i cracked open the case and pointed a fan at it whilst playing.

I am pretty Sure a 4850 runs way to hot for a Shuttle. If the outside shell can be removed I recommended it. Might also want to look into under volting it (might need to be under clocked as well).

What doesn't seem to be running hot? Because that Video card is horribly hot for its size/price to begin with. if I remember correctly it by defaults runs at 65 to 70 C. That way hot, and the lack of circulation will only may that worse. If you have a second open slot next to it you might want to look into a aftermarket HS/fan combo that uses the second slot as an exhaust.

fan controller says its running about 50oC, although thats when i alt tab away from a game, at which point the fan noise drops significantly too.

opening the case up and an extra HS/ fan i will look into (i fear for it come summer), under volting/ under clocking goes beyond my expertise though...

There has only been 4 times I have seen that. 3 Were when the video card was dieing and the other was a heat related issue.

Definitely overheating. You need more fans/airflow.
