A friend just got HD DVD's for christmas. Unfortunately they and no one we know owns an HD DVD player. I saw that the 360 has an accessory for it, but are there any other options? Looking around in best buy didn't help.

Besides ebay, not really. You could always check out pawn shops. And occasionally HDDVD players will show up on Slickdeals.

Yeah, every place I asked said to check online. My recommendation was to exchange the dvd's for normal ones. Thanks.

Well I was looking at a couple drives like this.
    Clicky clicky
Blu ray and HD DVD drive. Though I guess that would depend on having a nice monitor and rig.

I infact own the non burner version of that one that you linked... I'm very satisfied with it... I own a mixed collection od HDDVD and BluRay movies, in fact I keep buying the clearance HDDVDs as I find the intruiging once.... I have Batman Begins on HD DVD and Dark Knight on BluRay... Makes me laugh a little...

Honestly I'm tempted to buy the burner if only so that my current drive can act as a backup for when they stop manufacturing them I'll be able to keep watching my precious little antiques....

I think the last "New Release" I bought on HDDVD was American Gangster.... But alas, depending on your movies I'm always willing to trade my DVDs for new HDDVDs in shrink wrap...

Yea, it seems pretty legit. Future proofing a bit.. on everything pretty much, and cutting down the price of purchases by being able to pick up cheap HD DVDs.

that was my mind set... Hell, you could get Transformers for 2 dollars from iNetvideo.com I bought the drive SPECIFICALLY because I knew only one could win, the other would go on clearance...

Most PC Blu-Ray players also playback HD-DVDs

Well, more PC BluRay players with the HDDVD logo, the current ones built into laptops, for example, don't play HDDVDs...
