It was a space game where you mainly controlled one ship. You could land on planets and recruit crew members who would enhance your ship by specializing in things like weapons or engine technology. There was a one character that you could recruit named something like "captain calvin" that was an expert in all areas.
You could also transfer power between systems like shields, and engines. From what I recall the graphical look of the game was somewhat similar to Escape Veloicty.
I don't know the game you're talking about, but my favorite Mac games were Dark Castle and Beyond Dark Castle. Fun platformer stuff and it had digitized sound! None of my friends' PCs had that kind of thing at the time.
