Can't seem to display 1080p on a PS3 through my new TV!
Yesterday I had a 32LG7000 HDTV delivered to my front door, and as far as I can tell, this thing supports 1080p. Yet when I try to change my display settings to 1080p on the PS3 it won't allow me to. (It does the whole 'screen goes blank for 30 seconds' shtick). The highest I can get the settings to go is to 1080i.
However I can enable the 1080p blu-ray playback option.
I've done the ps3 display reset routine, to no avail. It's connected through HDMI.
So, H/A, any suggestions?
I'm going out to buy some food in a moment, so I'll be back to try anything out in an hour or so.
Um... as far as I know, PS3 and Xbox 360 won't do 1080p except for Blu-Ray or HD DVD. Am I incorrect here?

If that's the case then I retract the whole thread. But I have a copy of MK vs. DC universe in front of me which claims to support 1080p on the back. (Most others seem to be 720p).

That was true for component cables on the 360. HDMI (or VGA) Cables should support 1080p resolutions in games that support it.

To try and be helpful to the OP: What kind of cables are you using? What version of HDMI does your TV Support and are you using the same type? (IE HDMI version 1.3 or whatever)

Component on the 360 does now deliver 1080p at least in the GUI but not many games if any(I think there was an software upgrade that made it happen).
Also the PS3 will do 1080p but not in all games but the GUI will be 1080p if so configured and to test there is a demo of Wipeout HD (Warning - seeing it means buying it)
As I remember there are a few extra setting beside the resolution itself to play around with - maybe that will do it. As for the cable I am pretty sure it will not matter as the HDMI 1.3 is not a requirement for 1080p it just allows for even more bits of colour per pixel.
It may be an HDCP handshaking issue, although from what I can see that shouldn't happen with your TV.
Also, it's not alliteration, it's a rhyme. :P

Yeah, it may just be the cable. We had the same problem with my step-fathers new TV and his PS3. Try a new HDMI cable and see if it works.

It could be a cable problem, sounds weird that it lets you turn on 1080p for blu-ray though.
The 360 can do 1080p over component, but the TV has to support it. The game doesn't have to, because if it's not 1080 native, the 360 has a scaling chip that makes it 1080p. There are a few 1080p native games though.

I'm having the same issue with the same tv, except sometimes the TV actually blue screens and throws an exception.
Just so you know, very, very few games support true 1080p. Even when they advertise it on the back of the box, they usually just mean "if you run the console in 1080p mode, we'd be happy to upscale our lower-resolution image for you!"
Call of Duty 4, for example, runs at 600p (not even 720p) on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3. This kind of thing is not as uncommon as you might think.
So chances are you're not going to lose anything by not having 1080p for your PS3 games, as long as it works on Blu-ray.

I'd say try a different cable, 1.3c I think is the latest revision and would be backwards compatible with anything prior.
Consult your TV documentation to determine which version your TV actually accepts.
