Xbox360 desperartely seeking friendship with friendly Monitor

CitriCitri Registered User regular
Hey PA,

Got myself a new Monitor :D (An LG W2252TQ.)

I'm curious if anyone has this monitor and knows whether or not I can connect it to an Xbox360 and if I can, what would I need?

Thanks in advance,

Citri

xx

You'll need an RCA to Stereo adapter for the sound jacks, unless you have audio inputs elsewhere.

The official MS 360 VGA cable comes with an RCA to 3.5mm adapter.

As a cheaper alternative, Monoprice has a 360 VGA cable and RCA to 3.5mm adapter for about one-third of the price of the official one. The quality is supposed to be comparable to the official cable.

I heard 3rd party cables suck and produce a ghosting image.

You can buy an official VGA cable for possibly cheaper on ebay (used). My used one didn't come with a stereo adapter, but luckily I had one from a speaker set.

Well my Ebay'ed one must be unofficial, despite being in seemingly legit but just annoying blister packaging...

There is some Chinese (I guess) imitation that has package design and package graphics that look a lot like the official VGA cable's, but there's no mention of Microsoft on it or something...

I have a PC monitor and speakers hooked up to my Xbox as well. I use the aforementioned VGA cable (don't bother with HDMI-to-DVI unless your monitor supports HDCP), but I run the audio through this guy so I can control the volume from remote: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815260010 . Works pretty decent.

Yeah, that's probably what I got, with the product coming from Hong Kong and all. Luckily it works fine, though there is a slight ghosting when accessing the System menu (it was more noticable in the old Blade interface, thankfully).

It's always a gamble with the knockoffs. I got my cable from dealextreme (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10940). It's $13 now but was only $7 when I ordered mine. So far the image has been fine.

You'll need any sort of amplifier for the sound though. Anything will do, such as speakers or a set of headphones with a volume control. If you just plug it straight into a pair of headphones the sound will either be way too soft (problem I had) or others have said it was way too loud.

Sort of related: I'm thinking about getting a monitor to hook up to my 360. Will a 22 inch monitor be too small to enjoy? I sit about 5-10 feet away from my current TV. Also, is there a DVI cable for the 360?

We've played split screen GoW on my 22" from about 7-8 feet and it is pretty good, no trouble reading text or anything.

If your 360 has an HDMI port you can get an HDMI to DVI cable, otherwise you'll be using the VGA. Also you probably want to make sure your monitor is HDCP compliant.

Yeah, my 360 has a HDMI port, so I can do that.
