Need to buy a new monitor - Brand suggestions appreciated

So my old monitor has just crapped out on me after little more than a year. Fuck if I know what's wrong with it, and I'm pretty sure it's not covered under warranty (even if it was, I don't think I have the documentation for it). I need to buy a new monitor, and fast. However, my problem is that my old monitor was an Acer, and I was told by many people that they are a very reputable brand. In fact, they seem to be all I can find around for sale.

My price range is $200 max (and I'd rather spend on the upper limit of that to get something nicer, than settle for junk). I want a widescreen this time, as standard ratio is too cramped in some of my games. I'm looking at around 19". Hopefully one of you will be able to recommend me a brand that's fairly trustworthy (perhaps with a generous return policy or cheap optional warranty) so I can get up and running again (atm I'm using a cramped 15" from ages past).

I was looking at some Dell models, like this one but I have no experience buying monitors from them. I've seen a few other deals on Newegg and such but most seem to be offbrands, and I have no real experience with monitor brands in general, so yeah.

Anandtech has a very good recent article about LCD displays, with recommendations for various prices: http://anandtech.com/guides/showdoc.aspx?i=3480 It looks like your budget is dead on, because they say you can get a very nice 22 inch wide-screen monitor for around $200.

My household has had three Dell LCDs, and they're of decent quality. The oldest one (a 19 inch ultrasharp) just died on me a couple weeks ago and the other two 17 inch standards are working fine, but the power buttons have broken inward. I'd say to use the power button as little as possible, and just let the computer turn the monitor off.

I'm looking at picking up this monster but it doesn't have a DVI input, only VGA and HDMI, while my video card only has DVI. How's DVI to HDMI conversion usually look? I'm planning on gaming on this thing, so if there's significant loss, I'd prefer to look elsewhere.

I'm using this one right now and it is working pretty well. 170$ is a decent price for a 22inch widescreen.

There's no conversion, it's the same digital signal.

Same monitor I'm using and it's really nice. Granted, I've only had it since Christmas so I can't really say much for long-term use yet.

Unfortunately, these days it's not as much brand as it is model. Decide what size you want, decide on a price range, find all of those monitors on NewEgg, and then start Googling reviews for each specific model number.

I make it a dual use screen for my 360 and route the sound to either some 5.1 speakers or headphones. Same boat. My POS sceptre X22-wg was dying.(ports are dying, Dvi dead- HDMI-DEAD, VGA getting flaky) So I snagged it at 150$ shipped. I couldn't really resist it as a black friday purchase.

170$ shipped is still REALLY good for a 22inch lcd.
