New album by Animal Collective is out on the 20th (or tomorrow if you bought the vinyl)
They are one of my favorite bands and this is another great album. If you have never listened to these guys you are in for a surprise. They are part psychedelic, part folk, part electronic, part experimental and they make it work. Yeah they are a hipster band but its good music and that's all you need to know.
strawberry jam has three ridiculously good songs and then basically filler
peacebone and fireworks are two of the best songs I've ever heard
I'm assuming the third song you're talking about is cuckoo cuckoo, since that's the third best song on the album
but unsolved mysteries? awesome. chores? awesome. for reverend green, winter wonderland? both awesome. derek? double awesome. even #1 is good, though I could do without the first two minutes I guess

for reverend green instead of cuckoo cuckoo for me
the rest is filler is an exaggeration but animal collective for me has always been a band that a few songs really clicked with me on and otherwise i'm not really in love with them
Does their album actually sound like music this time around?
thank god, no
(real answer: it sounds a lot more like music, actually, because the singing is more melodic. it's still good though)
I'd say a lot of it does. It's way way more accessible than anything they've done aside from maybe Person Pitch. Summertime Clothes and My Girls are practically pop songs in structure. catchy hooks and handclaps galore.
I like their more experimental stuff too but goddamn I really love this album
mang, i got all excited because i thought it was about the concert venue, which i live 10 minutes away from. i love that place, especially wine in the woods.
First listen I was disappointed with how electronic the album was but it has grown on me. I miss the long droning tracks of some of their earlier stuff, but I'm digging this.

but umm, i guess i'll check the band out too
It is named after the venue because the band members went there all the time when they were younger.
This album's really good. If you don't like the animal collective you're probably stupid or just have different musical taste than me which means you're probably stupid anyway.
nobody's going to believe me yet, but the new trail of dead album is superb and not as over-the-top ridiculous as the last two. they're making rock and roll songs again, basically.

yeah, this one's excellent. I still like strawberry jam more, but they're close.
What does this thread have to do with Merriweather Post Pavilion? I'm confused
It's the name of the album.
Really? Is it a live album? Merriweather Post is a concert venue around here.
It's not a live album, but it is named after the venue.

I was looking forward to it so this is pretty good news

I am down with this but I'll be wrapping the jacket in duct tape as soon as I buy it. That shit makes my head hurt.
I think Muse and My Chemical Romance was the last thing I saw at Merriweather Post. We were up on the lawn and it was like looking down at a sea of black eyeliner.

I wanted that pattern 18x24 on my wall making me nauseous all day
that is awful
It has perks, certainly.
