I just bought a used PS2 game (disc was fine, no scratches at all) from eBay, and when I play it a sort of weird sound comes from the console, and then the PS2 logo flashes, the sound comes again, and it's back to the boot screen, where the CD is readable (gold disc). I'm not getting any errors. It just doesn't play and goes back to the boot screen. Google hasn't been to helpful so I thought I'd try here.
The system is old but I haven't had any trouble before. Every other game I own is fine. I've contacted the person I bought it from, but I don't think I'm under any protection . . if I'm screwed, is there any way for me to get any money back from this purchase? The item does not seem like a fake, it just looks used (the box, basically). If anyone has anything sensible to say, that would kickass. Thank you!
If the item doesn't work at all, you're certainly entitled to a refund. If they refuse, you can file a complaint which may or may not help depending on how you paid and who the seller is.
I just tried it on my room-mate's PS2 and it didn't work there either. It's a DVD, unfortunatly. Could it just be the game?
Also, if I'm getting a refund, do I have to send it back to them? That seems like a somewhat unnescassary thing to do if the product is defect anyways.

Yes, you don't get to keep the "defective" merchandise AND get a refund. Too much possibility for fraud there.

That seemed like the most logical thing, ofcourse. Too bad though, cause it's a little expensive for me. Ahwell. Maybe they'll just send me another one.

When a lot of PS2s start to croak, they'll play DVDs but will refuse to do anything with CDs for some reason. My PS2 has been like that for years.
