Apparently I don't understand IP addresses

I got this from our isp (minus the x's):

ASSIGNED USABLE:
xxx.xxx.137.128/27 (255.255.255.224)--THIS PROVIDES 30 USABLE IP ADDRESSES

I don't know what those usable IPs are. Would it be something like this?

xxx.xxx.137.128
xxx.xxx.137.129
xxx.xxx.137.130
xxx.xxx.137.131
xxx.xxx.137.132
etc.
xxx.xxx.137.158

Or is it something else? I'm confused...

They're using CIDR notation. If I'm not mistaken you get 128-158 with 159 being the broadcast address.

The first usable address would be 29 and the last usable address would be 158 (giving you 30 address, unless you decided to subnet further).

28 would be the address of your subnet and wouldn't be usable.

Sounds like they put you on a VLAN (considering your netmask is a /27) which would make .128 your network, .129 your gateway & .159 your broadcast with a usable range of 130-158. I could be wrong though...

EDIT: Get your gateway address, that will help clear up what's going on here.

Thanks guys. That clears things up quite a bit. I think the gateway is .129 or .130, but I'm not at work anymore so I can't check.

I really appreciate the help. I've got to tell someone else what's available and I didn't want to sound like an idiot.

EDIT- I did a whois lookup on one of the addresses, and it says we have .129 to .158, which confirms that you all were correct. Since we're only using 3 right now and I just need to add 2 I don't need to worry too much about whether the ones at the end are usable. I'm just going to use .132 and .133.
