OK so my parts arrived today and I've got everything installed but DVD drives turn on but won't open and the monitor is hooked into the right part of the video card and that's on since the fan is going, but no video signal, what's going on with my comp?
I'm guessing the same is true for the video card if it's powering up but not working with the monitor, and I know the dvd drive is getting power because the LED comes on, but like you said it's probably not getting enough, I have it on a seperate cord from the psu but that doesn't help any either.
The power and hdd LEDs don't light up either and they're plugged in I could take those off the mobo, I wouldn't miss em if that'll help.
What happens when you power on the computer? Do you get beeps?
Try to get the computer to POST with video output with just the power supply, cpu, RAM, and video plugged in. Once you can get to that point you can add your dvd and hard drive.

No beeps, everything runs fine, just those 2 problems. I will try that though thanks.
I was seriously getting mad at it last night. Not having one for four+ months and frustration, not a good combo.
With that just plugged in the monitor still does the whole
Self Test
Check PC and Signal Cables
Monitor is working
which is what it does when it's not plugged into the card.
When testing it with just CPU, RAM, Power and Video, I'd make sure to reseat the video card in the socket. Which video connector are you using? I'd probably try the 15 pin VGA connection method first. Check the cable along the length and at the connection pins to make sure it's not damaged.

it's a 15 pin vga, worked with my last PC but there are some pins damaged, which were when it was working with the other, I'll try reseating though, I guess if worse comes to worse I'll just get my grand dad to put it together.
Unplug your dvd drives. It sounds like the cabling is wrong. If you have two set to master or two set to slave on the same cable, it won't post.
Only one drive, I just put the other in to test that the drive itself wasn't the problem. Did the same with another monitor, which also didn't reach post, either with just the PSU, ram, CPU and vid card, and with everything hooked up.
Since your computer is not POSTing, the mobo might be DOA. Do you have any other CPUs that you can test in the mobo, or even another computer you can test the mobo in?
My mobo was fine I just ah, didn't have the processor plugged into the power supply.
Compy works fine now though, but now my internet's being moody, have a wireless-G WRT54G router and the network adapter but no internet in my room after installing everything, running Vista 64 bit, and what do I turn off to get those "are you sure you want to run blah blah blah" popups to go away?
The processor does not plug into the power supply but if it's working I guess I'm not going to argue very much. The "are you sure you want to" stuff is the User Agent Controls; this site might help if you want to nuke from orbit.
