I'm having issues that google searches inform me may be caused by Zone Alarm. Add to this my increasing irritation with AVG, and I've decided it's time for a complete change in my computer protection.
I'm already giving Avast a shot for virus protection, but I'm not aware of any good alternatives to Zone Alarm.
Comodo's pretty good, haven't had any trouble with it. I use an older version for W2k so I don't have any idea about the antivirus it's bundled with now.
Zonealarm has been sucking for a few years now. Their still managing to get a free ride on the good will they built up in years past. I switched to Comodo awhile back now I just use the Windows Firewall since I have a hardware firewall as well.
I would recommend that you give the PC Tools Anti-virus a try. I got tired of AVG & Avast! real fast. The only time I got infected in the last 6 years was using those two Avs.
Technically it's perfectly valid for him to post that. It is firewall software and it is free. Although it does require dedicated hardware to be useful. Although assuming the OP wants outgoing protection on his desktop it's not useful there unless it is the desktop OS.
To add shithead to asshole: you shouldn't be using the net if you have to have an outgoing firewall babysit you.

That's awesome, I didn't realize they had a firewall as well.
Don't be an asshole.

Meanwhile I'll echo the Comodo recommendations.
