So the store I worked for just closed it's doors for good, and rather than try to peruse a new career I joined up with Americorp and head off to Maryland in September. I am also intending to submit an application for the peace corps before I head off and I just had some questions for the greater pool of wisdom that is these boards.
Is there anyone here who has done either and if so what should I expect? Is there anything I should be doing in the mean time to help increase my chances of joining the peace corps? The main areas I am interested in going are China and Morocco, between the two what would you suggest? Anything else that you know that I should be informed about regarding either of these programs?
I have a friend in the peace corps so I only know a little. First off, it's hard to get to go to a country you want. Most people seem to go to Africa where my friend is. He really wanted to go to South America because he spoke Spanish already, but I guess there was no space left... So don't expect to be able to choose your location for the peace corps. Also, it took about a year from when he first applied to when he was sent out, so don't expect it to be a quick process.
that is what I have been led to believe, actually I wanted to go to Africa but after talking to a rep they said with my skill set that I would probably be looking at china or Morocco. That and the Americorp program I joined is a year long one just for that reason. Trying to avoid jobless downtime
Just to throw it out there since you said you're delaying looking at a new career, I'm looking at a graduate study + peace corp program. Study for 1 year before going and then do Peace Corp for 2 years, which I assume would relate a lot to your studies, and then come back and finish anything at school. Compensation etc depending on the school.

And as for the Peace Corps, like NotYou mentioned, it's a long process. Start it as soon as you can if you're serious.
