Computer speakers for $40 or -

Hello, a quick check about cheaper computer speakers. I'm looking at buying cheap but good computer speakers (2.0 or 2.1) for my brother and I. We'd both use them like this:

Uses:
- Rare to occasional use of the speakers with most of the time having Sennheiser PX100 headphones hooked into them
- No hissing or buzzing sound when turned on, if possible
- Be able to turn the system on and adjust the volume easily without having to reach under a desk or behind anything everytime, if possible
- Hoping for the cords to reach about 4-5 feet if there's a subwoofer involved, 3-4 feet if not

Questions:
- Does the speaker's quality or subwoofer actually effect anything when you hook in headphones? Or is it the same as plugging it in directly to computer but with an extra wire
- The Logitech X-240 must work with an ipod shuffle 2nd generation since it's a basic mini-jack. Anyone recommend this setup?

I've read some customer reviews on systems I'm interested in. But I would be grateful still for very specific recommendations. It looks like Logitech or Creative would be great. Any overall recommendations like to avoid 2.1 if it's going to be a cheap system? Thank you.

PX100 headphones are going for just $28 dollars on Amazon right now so I'm going to buy that for my brother. I'll probably try to stick to Amazon or NewEgg for the speaker purchases.

I actually have the X-240s, and I love them. The subwoofer sits under my desk, the speakers are on either end, and the dock part is front and center where I can reach it easily. The dock has volume control, a headphone jack, and a standard line-in jack, so there's no fumbling for controls or fussing around with cords when you want to change activities. The sound quality is just fine for what I use them for (mostly gaming, a bit of music), and my set has lasted me for a year and a half now with no sign of strain or aging.

I was looking around a while ago for something similar for a friend, and came up with the Creative Inspire T3100s. They've gotten better reviews the X-240s, and they're only $33 at Amazon.com

Also, the speakers should have little/no effect on the quality of sound coming out of headphones plugged into them

I ordered the Creative Inspire T3100. Edged the X-240 out by a little bit because they do have slightly more positive reviews. And the controls are on the left speaker which my desk will be good for. I don't have room on the right side which I wasn't thinking about before.

I have a pair of Klipsch Groove 2.0 speakers, and they're pretty fucking awesome considering their price and size. They have a ton of bass for speakers without a woofer, and fairly detailed, flat response. They're a little over your price range, but I see some on eBay for $70 with free shipping, so not too bad.

I can't stand 2.1 systems for computer use, personally. The woofers typically lack clarity and stub toes.
