Name that game

Ok, I don't know if you guys will get this, it is pretty damn obscure.

So, I remember playing an edutainment game in school. It was year 2 of primary school, so I was 9, making it 12 years ago, so 1997. It probably wasn't brand new when I played it.

It was mostly a text based adventure game. I remember one area was a house, with a puzzle that involved you having a limited inventory. At one point there was a room with a tap in it, and you had to fill up a bottle of water.

I remember there was a difficulty selector, and it determined how many items you could carry at once (I think the options were 5 or 3).

It also had mini games dispersed throughout it. I think there was a maze (shown top down in 2D), and multiple choice quizes.

It was on a "Computer", I have no idea what it was, but it had a monitor and a keyboard. I played it in school, and the teacher just called it a computer.

Any ideas?

Did it have the huge ass real floppy disc drives? It was probably on one of those old Apple II's, cause they were pretty popular with schools when I was in grade school. (Though, that was 1994-97)

I don't remember using the discs, I think the teacher was in charge of that.

Oh yeah, it may have had a light "You should recycle" theme to it.

Well, did it have a UI or was it black with green text only?

Definitely had (very very) basic graphics, and several colours (but a small amount on screen at once).

What is basic graphics? We talking line drawings or something more colorful? Compared to today, basic could be

    For example, Ecoquest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EcoQuest)

    Oregon Trail
    oregon-trail.jpg

    or worse.

    Incidentally, could it be Ecoquest?

The red keys are usually the memory jogger, I played a few adventures games on it at school myself but this was almost 20 years ago, maybe have a look through:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:BBC_Micro_and_Acorn_Electron_games if you are reasonably sure its the bbc.

If it may have been on the BBC Micro then you should check out http://www.bbcmicrogames.com/ I would imagine it would be a good start.

Beat'd: In thought and post... I was just thinking it could be Granny's Garden too.

Both my parents were teachers, so I saw a fair bit of educational software. Having said that, I have to say I don't recognise the game described here; usually when people are recalling a text adventure it's either L: A Mathemagical Adventure (People always recall the Triangular Men, or the Abbott) or Martello Tower (People always recall the Drogo Robot Guards), but neither of those quite fit your description. I also don't think it's Granny's Garden because again, it doesn't quite fit the description (People always recall the witch!)

The three main producers of adventury-type games were Sherston (and the graphics sound a bit too inferior for them, they had pretty good graphics for the BBC), 4Mation (It's these I know the least about; I'd only played a couple. Flowers of Crystal, Adventure Island and Dust are the three that I recall, and only very loosely) and Anita Straker (usually maths-based ones)

On a hunch, I'd suggest you might want to check out 4Mation stuff, since I don't recognise it and I'm most ignorant about them!
