iPod broken

So the screen on my iPod cracked about a week ago and the crack which started out quite small its now fairly large. As such half of my screen, which just so happens to have all relevant information on it, doesnt display anything worthwhile.

So now Im stuck. Do I try and replace the screen myself (I have no idea how much this costs, but it shouldnt be that hard to do) do I buy a new iPod? Apple wanted $180 to fix it, but for $70 more I could have 4 times the space and a new iPod. Help me H/A.

What generation iPod is it? You can find replacement screens on ebay usually, and there are guides online how to repair them. You just need to be halfway decent at repairing electronics.

Good god, are vanilla iPods still that overpriced? How much storage do you need?

I would sell the broken one (if it is only the screen that is broken you can expect to get at least 50 bucks) and then just get the next gen.

Well the screen looks like this:

So I doubt Im going to be able to sell it, unless people are buying broken iPods, replacing the screen and then selling it for $150.

Sorry about the shitty quality, the only camera I have is the 1.3mega pixel in my Palm Treo

    Even then its a 5th? Gen 30gig

You totally can sell broken iPods. I sold my iPod with a dead hard drive for $50 (60gig 4th gen). If you are in a major city check out craigslist for broken iPods and see what the going rate is for one with a dead screen.

And by next gen I mean the newest one. It sucks to have a broken pod, but it's not so bad buying a new one when you get $50 bucks off.

Yeah, I can totally do that. I hope its more than the 10% off a new iPod Apple gives you for recycling an old one :(
