hey you guys, i've seen past music suggestion threads and they seemed to work out well.
basically i'm looking for some new music, i kind of tend to stick to rock/alternative stuff.
uhh i don't know how to really describe what i listen to actually, it's probably easier if i list the bands i listen to and you guys can suggest things along those lines.
these are in no particular order, just bands i like.
motion city soundtrack
weezer
the aquabats
vampire weekend
the killers
the strokes
MGMT
ozma
Ratatat
ok go
of montreal
phantom planet
Minus the bear
beck
neutral milk hotel
matt & kim
modest mouse
bloc party
the academy is
bright eyes
LCD soundsystem
cake
the ting tings
panic at the disco
tokyo police club
they might be giants
el ten eleven

travis
tristeza
explosions in the sky
grandaddy
the good life
tegan and sara
rooney
sum 41
sufjan stevens
spoon
hot hot heat
interpol
jimmy eat world
cloud cult
sorry, i don't know if the list helps, but if you listen to bands on the list and you think are some others please leave a suggestion.
i'm just tired of listening to the same stuff over and over again.
Since we (you and I) seem to have a large chunk of stuff in common, I'll go ahead and put some artists from my iPod that you should be predestined to enjoy by association. I'm sure as you read through them you will recognize many of them as stuff you currently listen to, yet forgot to post.
Apples in Stereo
Arcade Fire
Built to Spill
Camper Van Bethoven
Decemberists
Elf Power
Flaming Lips
Gerbils
Guster
Pavement
Pinback
Raconteurs
Rentals
Sounds
Supergrass
Wilco
If you like Minus the Bear, Look Mexico's Gasp Asp is good, only three songs but a lot of fun. If you're a JEW fan then The Get Up Kids (Something To Write Home About) and Saves the Day (Stay What You Are) are both really good and better at that style in my opinion.
The Gaslight Anthem is a safe bet, and seeing you like music I'd at least look em up. :P
The Hold Steady is really good, and I find for most people you're better off working your way through their library backwards to ease into his voice (start with Stay Positive). Good rock'n'roll with a literary bent.
Depending on what you like out of these I could give you more recommendations...
Well what I'm about to list isn't really the same genre for the most part, but I listen to a large chunk of the bands you listen to as well as these one's so... maybe you will like them.
Roadrunner Records have this thing going on right now, where you can sign up for their newsletter (just use a junker email), and they'll let you download a free CD. http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/index_splash.aspx
"Between Rock and a Hard Place" got a couple good bands on their that I found out about, and my musical taste is similar to your list.
I particularly love the Wombats.
Black Stone Cherry
Theory of a Deadman
The Wombats

I'm really into strong, melodic and emotional music. And no, I don't mean emo-hardcore stuff (meh!), but 'emotional' in the true sense of the word. I suggest some of the following bands. I'm not a big fan of genres and labels, so just listen to the bands for what they have to offer.
Porcupine Tree (Well, it IS my favorite band)
Death Cab for Cutie
The Decemberists
Mew
Snow Patrol
The Postal Service
The Cure
Telepopmusik
Duncan Sheik
Eisley
Fink
The Killers
Imogen Heap
Damien Rice
The Dandy Warhols
Ivy
Hooverphonic
Josh Rouse
Lifehouse
The Notwist
Oceansize
Saint Etienne
Vertical Horizon
Fragile State, Sigur Ros, Royksopp, Ulrich Schnauss and Bonobo are very different, but they all make good 'chillout' music.
I also like some intense/dance music on occasion, so I'll also recommend Pendulum, Way Out West, ATB and High Contrast for some variety.
When I was a little kid, I always pretended I was the hero,' Skip said.
'Fuck yeah, me too. What little kid ever pretended to be part of the lynch-mob?'
They are more or less like if a swing/jazz band met an ex lounge singer/rapper who had a horible childhood. Also there is rock in there too. Their newist album "A City Dressed in Dynomite" is simple amazing.
Edit: Most of their stuff is really strange but o so awesome.
Thanks for suggesting The Weakerthans. I think I like them.
I'm here to help.

www.deezer.com has a smart radio very similar to pandora, and the site itself is awesome.
As for a suggestion, I've been borderline obsessed with Lacuna Coil recently:
They've got so many awesome songs, these are some of my favorites. If I had to pick only one I'd probably go with Heaven's a Lie.
