How to move Vista to a new HD

StormwatcherStormwatcher BleghBlughRegistered User regular
So my current Vista HD SMART's is whining about something being wrong with it. So I need to move my OS to a new HD before some catastrophic failure happens.

Thing is, I don't want to have to reinstall everything, just move the OS... So, are there any decent free ghosting/replication apps I could use? The new HD will be bigger than the old, is that a problem?

Thanks

Imaging definetly sounds like the solution. I use Symantec Ghost here at work. You should look into "BartPE", a bootable version of Windows XPE that can contain all sorts of utilities such as ghost and whatnot... I imaged a 300gb HD in under 30 minutes, restoring them isn't bad either.

I've honestly never priced or considered purchasing them since they've always been available to me, sorry I can't help you there.

P.I.N.G is what I use. Think open source ghost. The name actually stands for Part Image Not Ghost. I definitely would recommend it.
