Gaijinworks' first game: 'Miami Law'? [DS] Demo on Wii channel!

edited May 2009 in Games and Technology
For those not in the know, Gaijinworks was the company Victor Ireland formed after Working Designs bit the dust several years back.

(If you're not familiar with them, Working Designs are the company that single-handedly brought the US some of the east's finest games when no one else would, such as the Lunar series, Albert Odyssey, Dragon Force, Magic Knight Rayearth, Elemental Gearbolt, Growlanser, etc.)

And nothing's happened since then.

At least until now
The first thing out of the chute isn't one of the MAIN things, but the good news is it should be publicly announced within a month or two for release before Summer '09.

Don't let me down, Victor.

Dragon Force PS2 would be nice.

I guess all we can do for now is speculate, but at least he's still got projects in the works.

I think.

I laugh every time I read the name "Gaijinworks."

    Never change, Vic.

I know there's about zero chance that Square would let them, but someone should fucking bring Nanashi No Game over.

    This is great news.

In my fantasy world they would be working on a localization of Ikusa Gami right now.

If they keep their packages with awesome artwork/bonuses up to snuff, I'm game.

Yay, didn't know that anything came from Working Design after they died. Loved them and will watch them like a hawk...that watches things a lot.

I swear to god if it's Mystical Ninja for PS2 I will burn down their new headquarters. I hope that in no corner of their mind still exists the thought of bringing that awful game out.

They'd have to drop something big to make up for a lapse like this.

Sakura Taisen Anthology would be a good start.

I pray that they keep the wonderful packaging and extras, and drop all the horrific bullshit overdone pop culture references that absolutely littered their old games. Vic needs to sit his bi-polar ass down and take a look at what Atlus and NIS have done over the past few years and look at what they have done since they would be his niche competition.

It's been unveiled, and underwhelming is an understatement.

    http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=354282
When Hudson unveiled Miami Law, we desperately started scrolling through old posts and the websites of likely Japanese developers, because we couldn't identify the Japanese game upon which it was based. It turns out there's a good reason for that -- the American press release is actually the first information released about the game at all. It is being developed in Japan, but released in North America first.

This information came to us from Victor Ireland, former president of the publisher Working Designs, who started a new company back in 2006 called Gaijinworks. Miami Law's localization is actually the "first project out of the gate for Gaijinworks," as Ireland told us!

Back in January, Ireland told 1UP that something related to the company would be "publically announced in a month or two" for summer release, and that it wouldn't be "one of the MAIN things." We can guess that Miami Law is that first item, then, and we can look forward to more from Gaijinworks in the near future.
and that's the whole article, really. So this is being developed and published by Hudson Soft, but Vic Ireland's new company is handling the localization. Care to comment Victor?

Miami Law is an action-adventure game packed with all of the ingredients of a prime-time TV show: an intricate storyline with a shadowy terrorist conspiracy, furious shoot-outs in abandoned warehouses, challenging crime-scene detective work and more. Players will have many opportunities to choose their path and change the story – either as the intense Law Martin from the Miami PD or the brainy Sara Starling from the FBI. Players will be presented with different challenges depending on which character they pick – playing as Sara will feature a puzzle-based, mystery solving element, whereas playing with Law will thrust the player into the action, often into car chases or shoot-outs where taking out the bad guys is the only way to get results. Unlockable extras, including Texas Hold ‘Em Poker and Sudoku, are included to take the pressure off players when the tension gets thick.

So, CSI, Chase HQ, and Time Crisis combined into one DS game? If it ends up good, I may buy this, despite being disappointed in it not being something like they should put out

    Oh come on, that's awesome

It's like Phoenix Wright, except instead of a lawyer you're a renegade cop who plays by nobody's rules but who gets results

Oh yeah and some chick who solves puzzles or something who cares she doesn't get results like Martin Law

Or Law Martin. Whatever. Personally I think his last name should be Law and his middle name should be DANGER

    "You're off your case, Law."

    "No, You're off YOUR case!"

    "What does that mean exactly?"

"It means he gets results you stupid chief!"

    ....

Anyway, this sounds like an action packed Phoenix Wright. Could be great, could be bad; it's all in the execution.

This is not what I expected from Working Designs 2.0.
The preorder bonus for this game better be a punching puppet of one of the characters and a necklace and little character standees and goddammit I kind of miss WD. :(

The Phoenix Wright games had okay gameplay, but without the localization it wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is

The demo's on the US Wii channel. About to check it out right now.

Er... that was short. Interesting, but there was almost nothing to it. The gameplay seems fun, but I'd like to know something about the story.
