Just Curious (video game thread)

Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone knows of any modern day video games that are like Lolo (the old NES game where you moved through rooms by solving puzzles). My girlfriend really loves this game so I was wondering if there were any more modern games that are like it that I could get for her. Thanks in advance!

I'm not familiar with Lolo, can you describe the types of puzzles more?

Basically in every room the goal was to collect all the hearts in the room which turned on a switch. Then, once you flipped the switch, the door to the next room would open. However in each room there were certain enemies that you have to block in or move the enemies themselves to avoid getting killed while getting the hearts. It is pretty hard to describe but its almost like Zelda minus the swordplay.

Step aside here... you may turn in your gamer card and walk away henceforth. *grin* Just kidding.

The Adventures of Lolo is a NES puzzle game where you control a lovable orb named Lolo and tried to pass a series of "puzzles in a box" using a limited set of tools. It is thematically similar to games like Lode Runner, Sokoban (that warehouse game in which you push around boxes), and even the recent game Portal. It was unique in that it told a whimsical story along with the puzzle gameplay.

I found this on a google search; play the original game, I guess:

As far as similar modern games, nothing immediately springs to mind except Portal, but you probably need to specify: Does she like the "puzzle in a box" motif? Or does she like the whimsical characters? Or the top-down/Sokoban-like gameplay?

EDIT: The old game for the Atari Lynx "Chip's Challenge" was also similar.

She likes the "puzzle in a box" motif the most. She played Portal and enjoyed that a bit but the controls kinda confused her a bit so I think the top-down gameplay is the best for her.

It's a side scroller, but Braid might be right up her alley :winky:

Lufia II (SNES) had a shitload of awesome top-down puzzles in its dungeons, and I think they are exactly what you are looking for, but it was also a JRPG with all the trappings thereof, so that may rule it out.
