Nasea and vomiting

Apparently something I ate disagreed with me. Repeatedly. Now I am suffering nasea and vomiting and spending time bowing before the porcelain god. Any advice to get me through this?

Drink water between bouts of puking. As counterproductive as it sounds, it makes it easier to throw up, and gives you something to actually throw up aside from stomach acid and bile. Other than that, just ride it out. Pepto probably wouldn't do anything for you aside from turning your puke pink. If you're still puking 18-24 hours after you first started, see a doctor, because it's something more serious.

If you've already puked several times, then whatever was in there is probably out. At that point, I usually drink a glass or two of water (dry heaves suck, and dehydration is a factor after a while) and snack on crystallized ginger. It's yummy, generally settles the stomach, and if it doesn't work it tastes okay both ways.

Ginger ale used to work when there was actual ginger in it, you can find one that does, but you generally have to look for an export.

You definitely don't want to be dry heaving--throwing up water repeatedly is better than feeling like you're about to suffocate because you can only half throw up bile and you're choking for air.

I had an episode last semester where I vomited for about 6 hours, and after that, I ignored the "18-24 hours" thing and went to the hospital. If you do go, I know that I got an anti-vomiting drug injected intravenously plus some saline for dehydration, followed up by a small prescription for anti-vomiting pills.

Thanks for the replies. I think the worst of it is over now, although I have a slight headache now.

Usually, when you puke, your body needs something gone in a hurry. I'd be willing to bet food poisoning- sounds like you just had to get rid of it.

I had stomach flu for several days a few years back. Anyway, like everyone else said drink lots of water because it helps so much. If you can nibble on some crackers. Sometimes once I throw up I think feel worse because my stomach is just filled with bile. Also, if you're throwing up repeatedly and it's really acidy take a tums or two. It'll neutralize the stomach acid so that your throat doesn't get really sore.
