Ok, I finally have it. I have been putting it off for a long time and will now do my best to play it.

My only misgiving is it being a JRPG, and a SHIN title even so it is going to be hard to wrap the mind around and settle into a gameplay formula.

So I put to you, what should I know as I get ready to start this beast? Easily missed moments or tips early on you wished you knew your first time with it? Help me maximize my early enjoyment

If you're out in the afternoon/after school period and you go into the dorm it skips to the evening. Always use that time to do something.

    Stat boost spoiler:
You can donate money at the Nagasaki Shrine. 1,000 yen and you'll more than likely boost your character's intellect. This doesn't make time pass so you can donate (only once a day) then go and further a social link / do one of the other stat boosting things that passes time.

If you're in the dorm in the evening you can still go into town (the mall, really) to either continue a social link or do a stat boosting thing. Don't go into your room as that moves the clock forward to night when you can't do anything but study.

    edit:

This is all for Persona 3 vanilla, not FES. I'm assuming it works the same.

TY DOM, that whole advances time when you visit your room sounds like a frustration of an oopsie!

From what the instructions say the biggest addition to the game is extra Personas and a new chapter you can play separate from the normal story.

Edit: 30 more minutes till I put my kids to bed and fire this bad boy up. I'm kinda excited its been awhile since I got my JRPG on, awhile equaling FF10 but this game got so many glowing comments I finally had to wet my beak.

Don't expect to max all your social links on the first playthrough without the use of a guide.

If you aren't using a guide, spend every afternoon on one social link and every night boosting a stat (Courage, Charisma, and Knowledge in that order), save for when you need to visit Tartarus. You boost Courage by singing Karaoke or playing the Haunted House game on select nights. You can also get a Courage boost by visiting the school nurse when you're tired and drinking his potion or whatever.

At night, always choose to study unless you're Tired. If you're Tired, you won't learn anything, so just go to sleep.

Try to spend as few nights in Tartarus as possible, but never tackle a boss tired. Always be aware of your Persona's weaknesses.

I scrolled through and just spotted a Persona 4 thread so I didn't want to do any thread voodoo resurrections by searching then posting in some ancient thing because I didn't see the time.

My apologies if this is too unwarranted in most peoples eyes.

    :(

The Persona 4 thread is the general SMT thread. We accept all discussion of Shin Megami Tensei games.

Shrine donations make time pass in FES.
