Good morning, Kite.
Your courage is needed again.
Good morning, Haseo.
Start your journey once more.
Your fury is needed again.
Good morning, Tokio.
Your story is finally about to begin.
It's okay if you still don't understand.
But, it seems like "they" have already set out?
You too, start here.
Now is the time that your power is needed.
Young boy,
Make sure to remember.
All the phenomena that envelop this world
Lie within your heart.
Even when something seems to be right before your eyes,
It exists inside you.
This world, made of ideas
Is nothing more than a shadow sprung from imagination.
.hack//LINK" -The Third Revelation-
In October 2007, the next story for the .hack series began, told in the pages of 'Kerokero Ace' in Japan. Since then, fans on both sides of the Pacific have wondered if the story would lead anywhere. It looks as if it finally has as the .hack//Link story will be coming to the PSP.
The story takes place three years after G.U.. In that time, the R:2 version of The World has been shut down. As things start, a brand-new and totally meant-as-portable version of the World known as The World R:X is about to start with a selection of players being offered early entries into the game ahead of the public. This pleases //Link's main character a lot.
Tokio Kuryuu is your typical 14-year-old obsessed gamer, excited about the return of The World but ends up missing out on the early-entry registration. He seems fated to wait to enter R:X when a new girl in class named Saika Amagi offers him a unique R:X game-disc which promises to let him access the game. However, Tokio didn't imagine that he'd be literally entering the game nor his first moments in R:X witnessing a fight between the original Kite and another player named Fluegel. It turns out that Kite and Fluegel are the leaders of two guilds of players fighting tooth and nail over special programs that will unlock the Akashic Records, giving complete control over the World to whomever controls them.
So far, not much has been released about //Link other then...
- It's 50% complete
- The game will be more action-oriented then past entries.
- 2-person parties, with 33 characters from the different .hack stories, including those who've only seen action in the printed stories.
- The cinematics if not the art-style will have a manga-esque look.

I finally went and finished G.U Vol 3 in December so I could get it over with. G.U., as a game, was a lot better than the original .hack, but still had enough problems to still be counted as a .hack game. There was also some really, really stupid stuff in there (MMO causes space station to plummet towards Australia, nuclear reactors are melting down and will cause human extinction because apprently in the future, nuclear reactors aren't equipped to handle meltdown like modern reactors are). I enjoy .hack's concept more than its execution, and that propels me forward through it's series. But hey, 2 steps forward, 1 step back is better than no progress at all. Hopefully Link will be great, though truthfully I doubt it.
I'll probably play it when it comes out and then complain about it.

Also, I don't have a PSP, so...damn.
Hm, it's been a while since I played G.U. Volume 3, so I'm trying to remember what exactly happened when things got crazy in the real world. Maybe it's because I would just glance through the news stories, but I overall thought the disasters were plausible, if unlikely.
I'm sure there's some fans of AI-Buster and the Legend mangas that hope that their favorite not-seen-in-the-games characters get some important face-time as well.
