Sharing Mac internet connect with a PC

Okay, the mac is connected via ethernet directly to the cable modem. Internet is fully functional.
I went into System Preferences>Sharing. Selected Internet Sharing.

"Share your connection from: Built-in-Ethernet"
"To computers using: Airport"
I select AirPort Options and select "Enable encryption (using WEP)" and type in my desired password. "WEP Key Length" is set at 40-bit (more compatible).

Problem is, as soon as I start sharing that protected network, my PC can't connect to it. It can see the network, and try to connect, but it just fails. There's no password input prompt?!

However, said network does work and connect fine if I choose not to set protection. But I can't work with that.
Any ideas?

well the WEP is a bit of a waste. Either take that off if it helps, or use WPA. When you get down to it though, perhaps something like a ROUTER could to the trick....

Router's in the mail. Guess I'll just bite the bullet for now.

If you set up the internet into the Vista machine you will have a lot more luck. OSX has no problem piggybacking on a Vista connection, but it hates hosting one. XP wasn't quite as bad.

Interesting. The opposite has been my experience in the past.
