I think I want to buy a couple heirloom items (cloth shoulders and either mana trinket or staff, most likely) and roll me up a Mage. But I've run into a problem: the three races/sexes I've tried so far (M/F BE and F troll all have terrible casting animations. It seems a minor thing to quibble about, but damn it that's what I'm gonna be staring at a LOT as a mage.

Male trolls have awesome casting animations.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Male undead have one of the best casting animations in the game. And I still say this after leveling a warlock to 80 and a mage to 68 both as undead. Troll's are ok as long as you are ok with never having shoes. I kind of wish my troll shaman was an orc though.
(edit) Unrelated question, but does anyone know where I can read about the game events leading up to WotLK launch? Something 'bout a plague in Orgrimmar, or something? I was unsubscribed until about a month ago so I missed these launch events, and don't really know what to look for.
Heres a strange question, do all UI mods run on a mac as well as PC?
I am looking to move over to a macbook and WoW will be one of the few games I play on it (other than NWN2 assuming it runs ok), I use a fair few mods (Dominoes, Fubar, Quartz, Skinner are the main essentials) and I was curious at a comment I read somewhere about "some" mods not working...

Ah, the Lich King had random assaults on all the main capitals plus there was a plague you could get infected by that turned you into a ghoul that you then could infect others by along with NPC's, it was a blast.
Of course the real plague to hit Orgimmar and many other areas on servers three or so years ago was much more chaotic and fun.
Also getting the elder coins in the major cities when no one is around is awesome.
The plague was also incredibly divisive among the player base from what it seemed (the recent plague before WotLK, not sure what the one a few years ago was). I tend to agree with a blue post that was released around that time: Why people still wanted to run around and do the same tedious dailies they had always done is beyond me (or other stuff, not just dailies). I can see the reasons why, but I don't think they were compelling enough to not enjoy the fun of being a zombie for a while.
In the beginning the plague wasn't really all that to be concerned with at all. However I can understand the frustration if you really wanted to do other stuff towards the end of the event. If you were near any sort of population center, and you didn't time it so that you got there shortly after everyone else died, you were going to be infected. And 30 seconds later you were going to be hunting for brains.

I loved the last WoTLK zombie event, it was so much fun in the stage right before it dropped to insanely quick infection time and people abandoned the major capital cities. I remember building up a huge npc zombie horde and a full 40 zombie raid in stormwind harbour and then taking the city city by city, leaving nothing living in our wake... until we eventually hit the AH square and got smashed by the combined might of the argent dawn and everybody using the AH.

This, pretty much.
Eh, to me, that was less annoying than.

Except that the guy using the battlemaster isn't stopping you from being a zombie necessarily (doing what you want to do), but you are stopping him from doing what he wants to do. There were plenty of NPCs/whatever else to kill, the people who were deliberately killing NPCs central to daily use were just being jerkoffs - I don't by the whole RP thing, the people who were doing it were doing so specifically to annoy people.
Which is fine. Griefing happens. I just found it amusing that the people killing quest givers and generally griefing players who weren't participating in the event would curse up a storm at players who stopped them from becoming zombies in the first place. Griefing is only ok when you're the one doing it I suppose.
We had this conversation months ago, there's really no need to rehash it.

As long as you weren't one of the people that bitched about how long it was going to be before you zombiefied again after they killed you I wouldn't have had a problem with it.

I was mostly ticked that Blizz interrupted the normal routine of questing, without going far enough. Nothing you did lasted longer than about 10-15 minutes. You'd go and infect an unused portion of a city, and then the zombies would all just automatically lose health and die within a few minutes. They should have been permanent, until other players wanting to fight the plague went and fixed things.
As it was, the event wasn't worth spending more than maybe half an hour on each day.
Excitement! I managed to finally get a group that downed Sapph and Kel'Thuzad last night, AND got my Elder title to boot.
Oh, and somehow i've got 3500g sitting around. I'm debating to keep saving and get my mage an epic, or to get one of those dalaran rings.

I really still think that that whole event was the devs way of slapping the mouths of the people who whined that the previous invasion event was just "some undead milling around a crystal outside the cities". The devs were pretty harshly and openly mocked on the forums for that little event, and if I were a vindictive developer, this past year's invasion would've been exactly how I would've retaliated. "You thought that event was weak? Fine, zombies ate your cities, asshole. Good luck trying to fight them off".
So I know that transferring characters between accounts and transferring across servers are two individual fees, but that you can do both of them at once, for just one combined fee of $25.
I don't suppose anyone has tried or know whether character visual customization can be included in that?
Wait...what? Between accounts?
Let me get this straight: if I buy my wife a new account, I could pay for a transfer of one of my characters to her new account from my existing one?

Only if the account holders have the same last name, afaik. So, yes, it's possible in your situation.

The key is to have the new account be opened in your name. You can only transfer between accounts that you own. My fiance and I have this setup, since she hates leveling and started playing on my account originally.

Undead look terrible no matter what they do.

I've got a 65 elemental in fact but on the wrong server on transfer cooldown
Though now that you post that I DO recall asking this before. I think my brain is broken.
it was probably mostly my fault

I can't add anything to that statement.
Well it's easy for me to say it after I say my piece on the matter isn't it

Why is it Gaydär? Instead of Gaydar? So that means that someone on that realm is named without the ä
